Battery Draining

Hey guys,
I'm posting this for my sister, she has a 98 Firebird. She's pretty cheesy and she wanted some "cool bass" so she bought some peice of **** sub box and had a friend hook it up for her. The only thing is, the power for the amp on the sub i guess is hooked straight up to the battery, and even when the car is turned off, the sub is still drawing power. So if she leaves the car sitting for a day or so she has to get it jump started.

Can anyone fill me in on where i should hook the power up to so that it turns off when the car is off? I'd imagine theres a way to have it work so that it turns on when the rest of the radio does, like when the ignition is to on or whatever. As you can tell.. i'm not much for stereos lol.

the power for an amp always goes strainght from the battery to the amp. the rmote wire is what turns the amp on only when the car turns on.

Yep. Does she have an aftermarket headunit? If so, I'm sure it has a remote turn-on lead. Usually the blue wire. Extend it from the headunit to the amp. If she is still using the stock headunit, tap into the power antenna wire.(Pink)

Yes. Remove the factory headunit and you'll see a big plug that plugs into the head unit...the Pink wire will be there.

Removal of factory stereo: Pull off the square plastic trim that surrounds the stereo and the a/c-heater controls. Pull on the corners of the trim since that's where the fasteners are located. It's in there tight so pull hard. Once that's off you'll see a couple 7mm bolts that hold the factory stereo in. Make sure you have the "TheftLock" feature on the radio disabled or know the code before you disconnect power to it.

Also check the amp to see if there is any part of the 12volt constant power crossing over to the remote turn on terminal. That happened to me once and it was just one little piece of wire that was touching the remote turn on so I covered both the ground and power with electric tape to seal it off good.
