I tried simply replacing the speakers in my monsoon system, and it worked well....for about a week....then the speakers shredded. I'm looking to get rid of the monsoon amp and try some more aftermarket speakers. Any suggestions on how to go about this?

No problem. Easily done. Now, are you planning on buying an aftermarket amp to replace the stock amp? Or do you just want to remove the stock amp? If you don't wanna buy an aftermarket amp you will need to buy an aftermarket head unit to power your new speakers......mise well just buy the amp then....lol

Eventually I'd like to replace the whole system, but like everything else on my car, it's gonna have to be a piece at a time due to a fixed income hehe But for now, I just want to replace the amp and the backseat speakers. I plan on getting subs later, but those will be powered by a separate amp. Any recommendations for an amp just to power the factory system? (power, # of channels, etc.)

Who was asking to keep the stock head unit? I said if he wasn't buying an aftermarket amp, then he would have to buy an aftermarket head unit. Which is true, because the monsoon/bose head unit does not provide any power.

huh?
you can drive speakers direct from a monsoon amp, not a bose, but you can monsoon.
the monsoon decks are the same as any other basic Delco deck, with a monsoon amp, amplifying the speaker level output of the deck.
in regards to the first question, run new speakerwire to all the speakers, and forget about the factory amp, trying to use those wires, requires lots cutting and splicing, as nobody makes a monsoon amp plug in harness.
you can use a PAC OEM-1 or any quality LOC to get RCA inputs from the stock monsoon radio, to signal for your amp, but i reccomned a new headunit.

For the camaro monsoon system the first 2 channels are actually off of the radio. They power the tweeters located in the doors. The other six channels are in the amplifier located on the passenger side rear wheel well. The amplifier powers the rest of the speakers in the system. And for the firebird, four of the channels are located in the headunit. They power the tweeters located in the doors and in the rear hatch area. The other six channels are in the amplifier located on the passenger side rear wheel well. The amplifier powers the rest of the speakers in the system.

whoops edit, amp to deck.
should read.
"you can drive speakers direct from a monsoon deck, not a bose, but you can monsoon.
the monsoon decks are the same as any other basic Delco deck, with a monsoon amp, amplifying the speaker level output of the deck. "
and your correct the monsoon deck powers the tweeters direct, but still taps off the speaker level output of the monsoon deck, to get the signal for the amp.
