  • Amp with GM headunit w/o cutting wires!

Going to put an Alpine 5 channel in my camaro and I want the install to be stealth and without cutting into any wiring and without rewiring to speakers. Basically is there a way to do this without destroying my wiring harness and without running new wires to the speaker. My setup does not have Monsoon and I have only 4 speakers(one of the only options my car didn't come with) Thanks

you dont have to touch the harness, but you have to splice into the two rear speakers to provide the amp with a signal. other than that, run the remote wire to your fuse box, the power to the battery, and find a ground somewhere. you shouldnt touch the head unit.

run new wires to the speakers.

or you COULD run all 4 speaker wires back up to the head unit, but then you need to find out what wires go to what speakers and what color is positive and what is negative.

with a 5 ch. amp, id just run some new, better quality 16ga. wire.

Don't know if you've attempted this or not, but here's my idea. Buy a wiring harness adapter from a stereo install shop. Then go to a junkyard and get the rear part of the harness that plugs into the factory radio with plenty of wire at the end. Basically what you are going to do is wire up the two harnesses and leave the signal wires unhooked. Run the wires from the salvaged radio's harness to the amp and then put the amp signal back through to the factory adapter which then plugs into the factory wiring harness in your car. I know it sounds a bit confusing but this seemed like the best way to explain. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask me.

Geez. Or you could just cut the damn wires and run new wires to the speakers......

You know, the rudeness was uncalled for. If you read the first post you'd realize that your solution completely does the opposite of the solution this person was looking for. I solved it WITHOUT cutting the factory harness and WITHOUT running new wires to the speakers.

So you want to power the speakers you currently have without adding more speakers?

The stock AC Delco head unit is great for this, my uncle does them all the time. I think they have a pre-out built into them for an amplifier, but if yours doesn't then listen to these other gentlemen and splice into the current wires, MAKE SURE YOU USE PROPER CONNECTORS!!!!! And it should work fine.

                      edit.

if you do not have the monsoon system, then yes you can, but you need to get the speaker wires to the front to connect to the factory plug.

Then you'll need 2 radio wiring harnesses. A Metra 70-1858 and a Metra 71-1858 connect a LOC to the radio, and the speakerwire to the other side.

                      Ryan.

PAC makes an adapter that gives you RCA outs and a Remote wire from the factory deck, I've got mine up for sale on the boards here. It basically just plugs into the stock wiring harness in between the radio and wire loom and gives you 2 sets of RCA outs with adjustable levels as well as a Remote wire to turn on your amp. I'm getting rid of it due to the fact I no longer have a head unit of any sort. I bought mine directly from PAC with all the cables for like $90 I think. I'm asking $45 for it.
