MAJOR SYSTEM PROBLEMS

Okay, so as some of my may know that I was worried about my HU only having one preamp outlet. Well today I go into Ovations to get my components (Alpine Type-R) to my new amp
(Alpine MRP-F200) well they run into major problems. One of which was the time. Two was the HU's one preamp outlet. Three the HU's preamp outlet only giving off LOW FREQUENCIES ONLY!
Well it took them ill say 6 hours to hook up components rear speakers and an amp. Then they find out after me telling them that it only has one preamp outlet that it will cost me more $$$. Then they find out that it was a SUBWOOFER OUTLET ONLY so that means that it give off only low frequencies. UUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHH. Dumbasses only think that they know what their talking about.!!!!! So then they tell me its all hooked up but it cant be played because my amp is running off of the LOW FRQ. and it has to be turned off otherwise it will blow my woofers and tweeters and mids. So then someone mentions some kind of mechanism that seperates the amps but you wont be able to turn it up or tune the radio. I new that my radio was some bullshyt. Now im just going to buy an alpine HU. I was thinking of the CDA 7893or 7892

They are correct. Your head unit has one non-fading subwoofer RCA out. You need a line output converter. This will change those + and - wires from the deck (head units 45 X 4 internal amp) into RCA outputs!! Presto! Hook up your amps like you would normally. Save some money and hook it up yourself from here on out. If you have any trouble, just let us know! [img]smile.gif[/img]

How many preamp outlets do you need? If you're running components off an amp, doesn't the amp have line-level inputs? If so, just run the amp off a front/rear (whichever you have open) set of speaker-outs. Both of my amps have that, so I haven't run into any problems with that HU.

I'm sure there are ways to get it done, but I guess true audiophiles don't do that whole "who cares how, just get it to work" mentality...

Edit: Doh! Took too long typing. Those line converters are what I was talking about, but some people say that they don't sound as good for some reason. I can't tell a difference.

I have one preamp outlet with a subwoofer amp and a 4 channel amp.

Good point Waldo! [img]smile.gif[/img] Both of your amps (M200 and F200) have speaker level inputs.

Not the whole head unit! Just the subwoofer RCA out. He needs to use the regular speaker outputs off the back off the H/U. Run them all the way back to the amps. Or, you could go the line output converter route and use RCA cables....

im lost. Anyway the guy used a line output converter for a temp. fix. Im just going to get an Alpine HU.

He didn't really HAVE to use a line output converter. Both of your amps have line level inputs..... either way, just extra money spent.

Anyhow, what Alpine did you have in mind?

I was thinking of the Alpine CDA-7892, also he gave me the line output converter to me for free.

Something sounds fishy to me. All of the HU's that I have delt with, the pre-amp RCA are normally full range. Maybe they screwed something up in the setup of the HU. What HU do you have now?
And if you only have one pre-amp out, the best thing to do is get a crossover if you have more than one amp. Then dedicate one amp to mids and highs and one to subs. Thats how I have mine setup.
But if you HU for somereason only has RCA sub outputs, I would dump it and get a new one.

His head unit only has a sub RCA is because, what is the first upgrade most everyone wants to do? They want bass. Maybe not a lot, but atleast add a little bump. And you can't do that with the amount of power the deck puts out. So they intend you to use the regular speakers leads from the head unit to power your speakers and then add a sub amp. It's a common move in cheaper head units.

It wasnt a cheap HU. $235 from HHGREG
