Cut off switch?

I was over at fbodyaudio and I read how Steve disconnected his hatch pop button becuase his car got busted into in like 2 times. Well in my firebird I have the hatch pop button by the lights switch.
Does anyone know how I could make a cut off switch that will kill power to that switch when I get outta the car.

I was thinking of doing a switch that i can flip when i get outta the car and hide in underneath the dash. That way if someone ever wanted to gank my shiznit, to bad cuase the hatch wont open.

Well then just disconnect the switch all together then. Because I know if I were a theif then I would be touching every switch I could find if I was determined! :D

If you want to get real fancy, you could connect a relay to your amp's turn-on lead or even accessory position. Then connect your hatch button to that. That way, the only time you could successfully use the factory button is when you have the key on or stereo on.

An easier way I guess would be to hide a toggle switch under the dash to kill the juice. But how likely is it that you will remember to throw the switch every time you park the car? Since my button is in the glove box, I rarely used it anyhow. I just use my key fob or trunk key.

I disconnected my hatch button on my old 3rd gen after they broke in and used that button to pop my hatch and steal my system the first time. The second time, i guess they realized it didn't work, so they just punched my lock on the hatch and got it that way. Don't feel over confident. If they really want your stuff, they can get it. Trust me from experiance.

I agree that you can't bee too confident. But having that button disabled prevented two of my amps from being stolen. All they were able to get was the HU. So I'm glad for that.

Ill figure something out. Becuase with that hatch disabled they arent going to get much.

all you'd have to do is find the wire that supplies the hatch solenoid with +12V power and put an inline switcth into it..... And something that wouldn't cost much more but would be even more discrete and much more scure is a relay run off the Ignition wire (kinda like someone mentioned off the amp rem. wire) This would make it so you would HAVE to have the key in the ignition and turned to the RUN or ACCY position before the hatch could be popped. It wouldn't be that hard to wire, really... just a small 22awg wire from your fuse box to wherever the relay is, and then a ground wire for 2 of the 4 pins, and the other 2 would be the 2 sides of the wire where you'll splice the trunk pop +12V source.

I think it's a cool idea!

Ya I think your gonna have to help me on the ignition thing. I have no idear how id do that.

Okay well listen, if you dont want anyone to steal your car stero stuff heres what you do. Find all the wholes in the amp(s) take four screws an electric screw driver and screw them bit*hes in somewhere.

Then take your sub(s) out of thier boxes and goto HERE and buy two boxes passenger side and driver side. This way they wont know how to take the subs out.

Then take you freaking FACE OFF of your head unit. If you dont have a detachale face, then join the 21st century!

Then take your a$$ to a local flea market and buy a cheap car alarm that is a nice brand. Then have the sh!t professionally installed. Pay the extra amount of money(it'll help out a little on insurance also!)


But thats just my rant... I could be wrong.

Well screw the sub down to the car and well of course the amps are going to be. Also get a dead man switch if you can find one. I have one on my chevelle it prevents anyone from stealing my car. All you can do is listen to the radio! Its great. You cant even see it! Its not visible to the naked eye. Its not even hidden! [img]graemlins/rofl.gif[/img]

in the fuse box, there's a plug called IGN. You can put any regular terminal lug end in there and run a wire down from it to wherever you need +12V only when the ignition is on. I did this and hard-wired a 2nd cigarette lighter in up under the dash to plug my radar detector into..... so my radar detector is only on when my ignition is on, and the plug is out of sight.
