painting amps

Hello

I was woundering if you can paint your amps to match the interior of your car without makin them run hot or burning them up??? I have a 94 camaro with gray and black interior. I painted the center concel, speaker grils, vents, and some other stoff with color changing paint and wanted to paint the amps to match them. The paint switches from grenn to purple.

I don't think it will make a big difference if you paint the amp. The darker paint may cause it to run a little warmer, but probably won't hurt anything. Lots of amps are black anyhow.

I would imagine that you'd need to use paint that resists heat. I don't know if it'd chenge color though...

If your amp is running hot enough to need high-temp paint, then you have more to worry about than just the paint. I personally wouldn't do it, but I don't think it would damage the amp either. I do, however, think it would look pretty 'cheap'.

I agree with the temp. statement but I do not necessarily agree with what you said about it looking cheap. If this was done correctly and tastefully it would be a damn nice addition to a custom interior.

That's a good point. When I was reading this thread I had a mental picture of someone with a $0.99 green rattle-can. If it's done right and to match the interior, it should look nice.

Just don't paint it if there's even the slimmest chance you have to return it to the store or anything, though.

I wonder, would doing this void a warranty on it??

I think it would look pretty sweet if you could take to cover off and have it powder coated. Not only would it be smooth and shiny, but the finish would be durable as well. Just a thought.
