So I'm trying to install this fancy flush bracket with some blue LEDS in it so it matches my Alpine head unit... Problem is the directions call for me to use the grey dimmer wire off the stock source radio harness and it doesn't seem to be working right. I'm fairly comfortable with electronics and diagnosing problems but this one has me stumped. First off, the LEDs work fine, I tested it from a 12v source and its perfect. When I hook it up to the dimmer wire however I get nothing (checked the ground, its fine). So I put my voltmeter on the two wires and I get negative voltage with the parking lights on (you know, cuz its a dimmer feed) As I lower the dimmer control the voltage goes from 0 to almost -12v.
So I'm thinking ok I have my wires backwards. I switch em and I get 0 to 12v. Positive yes, but backwards from the way I want it to work. That is, the LEDs light up with my dash lights are almost completely dim.
Is the voltage coming off the dimmer switch reverse polarity?! What sense would that make? Does anyone with the Humount bracket have any advice, or did you rig it up a different way? I was thinking I could splice it into an ignition wire and just have it on all the time if the car was on instead of when the dash lights are on.
Somebody help a brotha out, I hate when stuff doesn't work right even when you follow the directions!!
