Re: jl 10
Some head units require the FM/AM radio to be on, in order to activate the power antenna lead. Pioneer is good for that one. I would spend the few bucks for a decent head unit. A low end Alpine is under 200.00 and plays MP3's, etc.FirebirdV6.com/CamaroV6.com Administrator

just remember simple electrical rules. Be safe too!:tup:FirebirdV6.com/CamaroV6.com Administrator

Re: jl 10
Ignition should never carry the load your looking at. Should this start pulling power and overheat his connection point, it becomes dangerous.
If you were to do it with the ignition, use a relay. This will not pull but small mA and the relay is designed to do this.
Or, just get a newer, nicer head unit. I still think most "name brand" units will have the remote power on and be very cheap.FirebirdV6.com/CamaroV6.com Administrator

Re: jl 10
Ah, I see what you're saying. I didn't specifically mean using the ignition wire behind the headunit. I just meant a +12V ignition source in general. Regardless, it's perfectly safe. All ignition wires are fused from the factory obviously. So nothing is going to catch on fire. A few mA's isn't enough to pop any fuse you tap into either. But using a relay is never a bad idea.
And yes, nearly every headunit comes with a remote turn on lead now-a-days.:D
