  • installing a new deck. what will i need?

i'm planning to buy this deck
    http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Rio69In...0&I=130DEH2800

will i need anything besides the adapter kit? or will i need different wires and cables as well. basically, can i just take my old deck out, put the adapter kit in, then my new deck, plug it in, and then it should work?

if i can do the work myself, i will. but if i need to splice wires and buy new ones, i'm completely lost.

    any help is appreciated!

I put a deck in my 2000 firebird. I just popped off the beuty ring, yanked out the oem radio, the only other thing i needed besides the adapter (which is easy to match up the wires and crimp together) was an antenna kit. It was under $10 at walmart. It just converts the antenna to match up to the different sizes.
Why hop up a V6, cuz $724 a month for insurance is a little steep.

The only thing you need for that stereo is holding brackets and a wiring kit the total price for all that is about 15 dollars depending on where you get everything. A lot of radio stores will give you the brackets if you buy the wiring kit fom them.

QFT.....just like it says in the modifications encyclopedia.

Trim around headunit/ac controls is held in by clips. Just pull it off. 3 bolts hold in the stcok unit. Pull it on plug in the wiring harness and then crimp wiring from harness to new headunit COLOR TO COLOR. It's very easy. Setup to be that way. Use the antenna adapter to plug in the antenna wire into new headunit. Use mounting kit to make your new unit look smooth in the 1.5 din opening. Reinstall the 3 bolts and trim piece. Done.

When I installed my pioneer I couldn't hook up the antenna until I got the adapter. That is weird if you got it to work otherwise. Heres a picture of what it looks like.

Earnhardt, i highly doubt that, unless the previous owner replaced the antenna, with a power antenna or just an aftermarket. . . or the antenna wire was damaged and replaced without the gm mini.
All gm radios' have a mini plug and will not work on aftermarket radio's unless you have the adapter.
Maybe you just Ni**er Rigged it up.

i reccommend you take the same money, go on ebay, and get a better model. i love pioneer, i have a pioneer, but you can get a better pioneer with the same money on ebay, and i reccommend it i have a DEH-P770MP and paid about $200 for it new on ebay about a year ago, i love it to death

Must be that the previous owner replaced it. Nevermind what I said then, get the adapter.
