  • Finally tackled replacing window motor

And let me tell you, it wasn't fun. I had my cousin-in-law (works at a GM dealership) get me the window motor and regulator. He then came over and it took us a little over an hour to get the old motor and regulator out, and the new one in and working. We also found out that my up and down guide (not really sure what its called) was broke off at the bottom. We welded that back on, so now it doesn't come off track where I need to push out on the window to get it all the way up. But the window goes all the way up and down now, pretty quick too. Its kinda loud, but it only lasts a few seconds so that really doesn't matter.

I also realized that I suck at getting the door panel off and on. Right now the clip by the speaker won't go in the whole, so its sorta sticking out. But the door still closes all the way, so it works for me. I'll look at it better tomorrow during the day, since it was dark out when I put it back on. I also couldn't get one of the screws (the one under the armrest) back in, because the clear plastic sheet was in the way. I'll see if I can get that tomorrow too.

Just letting everyone know that while it may take a while, it isn't that hard, even for a first timer. If everything went smooth, it probably would have taken a half hour to 45 minutes. Things I encountered include broken guide, started with window all the way down because it wouldn't go up, and it started to get dark out halfway through, so we needed a trouble light. I should probably do the passenger side soon, but it can last for now.

I have a 2000 and the window will move only 1 to 10mm at a time
and wonder if it can be fixed without replacing the entire motor.
I think that it took two of you 90 minutes including one of you who
works on GM cars says volumes about how hard it is to do.
I think I should not even attempt it at all.

      Is there any temp fix?

Theres no real temp. fix, I'd say just go for it. He works at a GM dealership, yes, but he said it was his first time on an F-body. If it doesn't move anymore, its time to get a new motor.

          Me too.
Well, the removal/install was about 30 minutes, but that doesn't include drilling and taking off/putting on the door panel and speaker.

yeah, it pretty much only took me like 30 mins of work, that doesnt include getting all my tools ready, but after i started it went really fast, just use that guide http://shbox.com/page/windowmotor.html just look at the back where the rivits are and guess where to drill through the door, and see how far off you are and just make the hole bigger accordingly, its not going to hurt anything, anybody who tells you that it takes forever takes the entire door apart and does not drill through the inner panel, which makes life so much easier, and does not harm a thing. just go for it, you will be suprised on how easy it really is

yeah, it's not that hard at all. My 2000 camaro had manual windows. I ordered a power window kit from autoloc and converted them to power windows. It turned out nice.
