  • new amp question

Hey all I have a quick question, I have a full Alpine system except for my head unit. I’m looking for new Alpine amps. I have been out of the loop for some time now and starting to get back into it. I need 2 amps one for my sub and one for my mid’s. What would be a good choice?

    Thanks again

        Re: new amp question

The mids are: Alpine Type "R" SPR 176A
And my Sub is an Alpine Type "R" SWR 1042D
Head Unit is a Sony X-Plod 52 watt cd head unit.

I'm only going to run 1 set of mids. I have Alpine type "S" in my doors already. So the mids are going to be in the back seat area.

Also I have never done this before in the past but how hard would it be to amp the mids? I know that I will need to run 2 amps 1 for my sub and one for my mids. But like I said I have never done that before I have always just amped my sub and that was it. Now on my head unit I have different outputs for my rca lines that are automatically tuned in from the factory "Sony" So I'm assuming that all I would have to do is run the rca lines to the amp and just set my crossover jumpers and tune them in. If anyone knows please feel free to let me know. My system right now just does not sound right and I don't want to jump into it without doing some research.

Again thanks all for your help

          Re: new amp question

You can get a 4 channel amp and then a mono (1ch) amp for the sub. Amps have built in x-overs, you can set them to treble which blocks out the bass notes, flat, which plays out all frequency ranges, or bass, which only allows bass notes for that setting. You can tune those setting with the frequency adjuster. Mono amps are only made for subs so all you gotta worry about is adjusting the gain and frequency range. (Note... the gain is also adjustable on the 4 channel amp.) If your h/u only has two sets of rca preouts for say... front mids and subs. You can get a rca splitters for the extra set of mids that you want to run. It would better to amp your fronts along with the rest of the system, or else there gonna be over powered. Dont go by the 52 watt rating for your h/u, they tipically put out around 20 rms watts to each speaker its not much really. Do not go by peak power it dont mean s**t if you want clean loud sound. Find an amp that puts out atleast 50rms watts to each speaker, and atleast 250rms watts or more for a subwoofer.

            Re: new amp question

I would rec a 50x4 channel amp bridged into 100x2 for your speakers and then a single 500/1 mono amp for the subs.

Now inorder to bridg both speakers how would I do that? Just termanate them on the same termanal? That would "over load" the amp will it? Please let me know because that's what I'm thinking about doing.

              Thanks all for your replies
