Using component door panels and sub noise

Alright, i've seen trans ams with the door panels that have a component speaker setup built into the panel. Does one need just these door panels to create a component setup, or is it actually set up in the metal part of the door?

Also, does anyone pick up what seems to be "muffler" noise in their subwoofer??? The noise i am picking up is not engine noise, it honestly sounds like it is reproducing my muffler??? I have msd ignition wires, so i know that helps with the noise suppression. I have good RCA cables and a good clean ground. I ran my ground wire over to where the seatbelt bolts on to the top of the seat in the back hatch compartment. I sanded down the paint so there would be a clean wire/metal connection as well. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

The door panels that are set up for component speakers were available for both the Trans Am and the V6 model Firebirds. The actual door it self "the metal/fiberglass" is the same. Just remove your old door panels and the component equipped door panels will go right on.

Does the "muffler" sound change when you rev the engine? What about with the engine off....does the muffler sound go away? You may want to try moving your ground to another location and see if that helps.

It seems that it is mostly at idle with the muffler sound in the sub. It doesn't increase when i rev the engine either. When i turn the volume all the way down to 0, it is there as well. I moved the ground to a place behind the rear seats and i'm still facing the same problem.

sounds like your RCAs are picking up the noise, did you run power and interconnects on opposite sides of the car?

yep, RCAs running on one side and my power wire and remote wire down the other side. The amp kit i have is the rockford fosgate as well.

If you have an extra set of RCA's laying around, temporarily hook them up between your head unit and your amp (run the rca's right over top the seats and all). Start the engine and see if the noise is still there. If the noise is gone then its got something to do with the RCA's you already installed. Make sure the RCA's you are using now aren't pinched anywhere with a screw or a piece of trim. On a 94 Firebird I once had, I ended up pulling the passenger front seat out so I could pull up the carpet and I ran the RCA's in the center of the car all the way to the back.

I've actually heard people complain that MSD system's make their noise problems WORSE.

Other then that, think logically. If you have a friend with a system, run a jumper RCA from his headunit to your amps. If the sound remains, you know your headunit and RCAs are good. If it goes away.... well you get the idea....
