  • Speakers almost fit.......little help?

Well, I finally bought some new speakers to see what my Monsoon setup will do.

    Kicker SSMB6 (Sails)
    http://audiovideodimension.com/index...0&currency=USD

    Infinity Reference (Doors)
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1140392384625

Getting the door panel off and on was a snap. However, my speakers are just a bit too small around. The screw holes for the stock speakers don't line up with the ones on my new speakers. They're so close. Same thing going on with my sail speakers.

I tried looking for speaker mounts of some sorts with no luck. Is there anything you all would recommend besides epoxying them?

    Thanks.

You needed to buy 6-3/4" speakers... you bought 6-1/2". Did you buy them locally? Take them back and get the 6-3/4" versions.

If you can't take them back you can use some thin wood (like 1/8" or 1/4" thick) hardboard. Use your factory speaker as a template and trace the "outside" edge of the factory speaker onto the wood. But before you cut that out, cut a hole out in the middle of the wood just big enough for your new speakers to sit in....then cut out the outer line you made with the factory speaker. You'll end up with a thin ring. I've done this several times before with good luck.

      Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunatley they don't make a 6 3/4" version of my Kickers. I did buy them locally. The two way door speakers I might be able to find some 6 3/4"ers.

Instead of wood I could use a square piece of like 1/8" plastic. Maybe?

      Anybody else with some ideas?

        Plastic would work too.

I would drill new holes in a heartbeat but the speakers I have are just small enough that the new holes would be too close to the edge of the speaker hole. I'll have to look again. I just might do that.

Thanks again for the posts fellas.

              Had the same problem.

I used my dermal, and cut the wholes inward. So in stead of there being wholes, there are slots. Worked ok, but I had to get some special bolts to hold them on good (I just raddled the simple clips out).

I got these at Home Depoe. They are called toggle bolts. They have a folding clamp at the end (look for the bulk pack, way cheaper).

To install them, I but all four bolts in the speakers BEFORE putting them into the whole. Then put the clamps on, and slide the bolts into the new slots. Then, have fun getting them tight with out destroying your subs. If your subs don’t have a wide metal bar at each of the bolt point, these probably wont work.

Oh, ya, and get a tube of “lock tight”. Uuuu, the blue is what I got. Blue = It can be removed, with work, purple = ya, maybe, and red “Oh, THAT ain’t comin’ off”.

Thanks for the posts all. I just went ahead and drilled new holes and used some rubber washers between the speaker and the metal to avoid any metal on metal contact. Now I can crank it up with no rattle at all.
