Opened up amp....

I opened up my amp cause it was overheating and i came across what looks like the thing you use to change the gains but it is right in the circuitry. Does anyone know what this is??

That would require knowing exactly what amplifier that is and a much better picture.

I see capacitors and resistors. what were you trying to accomplish by openeing it up?

Unless your an electronics technician, I wouldn't touch, turn or adjust anything inside that amp. I don't know much about circuitry but if you start messing with things in there you could damage the amp...Pooooof!!!...Nothing but smoke!!!

One of my capacitors blew up so i was fixing that. my brother said that thing was a voltage regulator or something complicated like that so no touchy.

haha funny. It's a variable resistor. Could be there for a ton of reasons. Check out the markings on the board right next to it. Bet it says "VR1" or something very similar. Regardless, don't touch it.
