  • Help, Losing Power to Stereo & Windows

I've got a 2000 Camaro with a pioneer CD stereo that I installed about 2 years ago, using a harness to connect to the factory wiring, I did not splice or cut any of the factory wires. About a month ago, I started losing power to the stereo and the power windows on an intermittent basis. The stereo cuts off and the windows won't work for anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes, and then everything comes back on. It has now started doing it when you 1st start the car. Anybody got any suggestions about what could be wrong? I have pulled the stereo and checked all the connections, as well as the fuses and everything appears to be OK.

I suspect you have a battery dieing on you.....and possibly an alt. have someone check your battery with a dmm before you start the car and then right after.

Thanks KC, I'll get it checked out. The car has about 55,000 miles on it, and at 6 years old its probably time for the battery to go!

its not your batterey, i guarantee it, i have the exact same problem, i found if you wiggle the big black wire on the bcm then that will cause it to cut out and do its thing, so for me i think its a loose connection to the bcm, if not a bad bcm, but people who havent had this problem dont understand what you are talking about, so dont listen to them, just start wiggleing wires on your bcm and see if that does anything

          bah,

Thanks for the input, but help me with the bcm? I'm assuming it is some type of control module? Where is it located, and is it easy to get to and to fix the connection?

body control module, underneath the passenger dash, that black cover pulls right off, and its the black box that has all the wires going into it, there should be a black wire next to an orange one, i believe that is the source of my problems, but i still have been unable to fix it, i'm halfway tempted just to give my stereo constant power so i dont have to worry about it, and just put up with it for my windows

I did a search after my last post, found the bcm location and went into it last night. bah, you are right, it is some sort of loose connection, on mine it tends to cut off and on when I move the large blue connector with about 20 wires coming out of it on the bottom of the bcm. I tried to get the connector loose to check it out, but it was getting dark and hard to see what was up in there. Is there a way to get more access to that area? I couldn't see any mounting bolts or anything if you had to replace the bcm?

you can just pull it down, there are clips on the side of it holding it in, just pull them back a little and it just pops right off, getting it back up is a different story.....

have you found anything more in depth, i have lost the motivation to mess with mine anymore, i'm tempted to go to a junk yard and pull a bcm out of another car just to see if its the bcm itself

i really have a feeling a relay in the bcm is out, because i have tried to solidify the connection of the wire that makes the difference, and that doesnt really make a difference, but every time it happens i just give the area where the bcm is a good whack and it comes back on, i think i will be visiting a junkyard soon to try and find a car identical to mine to steal the bcm out of
