ok i live in az so when i put the detector in the orginal spot ( mounting with sucktion cups on windshield) it gets very very hot and kinda warps the cups off. I was wondering if i could splice the power wires to the power wires on the rear view mirror and then mount it on the the ceiling of the car jsut infront of the mirror.
any info would be greatly appriciated
edit: and the radar detector normaly plugs into the cig outlet if that helps
i did exactly that on my ex's VW, and my friends stang, but put the detector in the top left corner where the oil change sticker belongs, its like that on my car too, but the wire to right to the battery
I got one of those sticky dash pads at pep boys or kragen for under $5. It blends in pretty well to the dash. I just let the detector sit on that and it doesn't budge even in hard cornering unless I hit a dip in mid-corner (I'm not taking corners too hard on stock suspension). The higher you put the detector, the lower the effectiveness supposedly - I assume this is due to laser use which is generally aimed at the body of the car. I love my radar detector when I'm driving into uncommon areas.
My valentine one has never came off, my friends escort 8500 X50 is the same, the bel rx 6500 or STI is good too...... you can't go wrong with any of those 4........ other then that you wasted you money..... sorry to say
