  • 15'' L7 vs. 2 12'' P3's

right now i have 2 12'' p3's in my car.. but one of them has a blown voicecoil... i was thinking today that i could send it in to rockford fosgate to fix. but that would cost $100+ i'm sure. and i could just save that money and sell the one that works and buy a 15'' L7 and put that back there. I was just wondering what everyones opinions on this would be? are the L7's good? i've never heard them? would it be better than my 2 12's? thanks

Well a couple things, you have more cone area with your 2 12's, and i dont' know the xmax of each sub right off hand but i'm pretty sure they're probally about the same, so if both subs are sealed then i would probally say the 2 12's but that also depends on the wattage your feeding them and the box as said above, ported is quite a bit louder. A buddy of mine has l7's and they do sound pretty good and get pretty loud but he had a problem with blowing them, he was feeding them rms wattage and had the gain up a little over half way, and he blew his l7's 4 times now, he says he'll never buy kicker again. but to each his own. How much you looking to spend on a sub, and how much can you feed em

Your buddy probably had his gain set wrong.

L7 is good for LOUD. My 2 12" L5s are LOUD for me, I can't imagine how much a 15" L7 would pound me. Try to find an audio shop that has an L7 and see how you like it. Of course, it will probably sound different in your car, but theres no harm in trying.

Heh I put 1 L712 in my friends Elantra with a Phoenix Gold 600.1 in a ported box, and soon I'm going to get him another 600.1, and drop another next to it, and change to a sealed box.

As far as max bass out of L715s, I put 4 of them in my ex gf's Dakota with 2 1200.1s... All I can say is omg where did my head go...

Honestly I think the 2 12's in the proper box will outrun the L715, but only in the proper box, and same goes for the L715, take the proper box.

What is your amp? Just curious?

              Re: 15'' L7 vs. 2 12'' P3's

umm i have a sealed box.. and if i got the L7 i would probably build another box with the about the same demensions and cut for the square sub. my amp is a hifonics 1205d.. its 1200 rms @ 1 ohm.. thats what its been at for my P3's. and its 900 rms at 2 ohms i think... i always kept it about 3/4 way up so maybe they were gettin around 500 each give or take a little...

at this point though i may just get a stealth box and keep my one 12.. cause i have gotten away from alot of rap and started listening to more rock and alt rock.. but there are a few days a week when i would rather listen to rap and have some bass..

also.. i havent had time to take my sub out and get the serial number and call rockford fosgate to see how much it would be to repair... does anyone have any idea how much it costs on the average the repair a blown voicecoil?

If your getting into the rock, you are going to want to keep a bit tighter on the bass, don't get a 15...

Run the 1 12", see if it makes you happy, if it sounds good but you want more get another 12" again. If it seems loud enough but doesn't sound tight enough, get yourself a bad a** 10" or 2.

i've been runnin just the 12 for about 3 weeks.. i like how it sounds for rock but i liked how 2 of them sounded too... and i definently liked how 2 sounded better for rap... do you happen to know how much it costs to get a sub repaired?

Call them and see, but that lower line sub they may not even re-cone.. But you can call them and ask, all depends on the sub, I have had subs re-coned for as low as $100-$125 and as high as $350-$400

Yes they are standard Punch line of subs. Don't get me wrong not bad subs, just not thier upper line subs, those ones will run you closer to 400-500 for a single 12".
