Why these speakers go for that outrageous price? Again, I don't know too much about stereo systems, but I thought the quality of the sound being played came from the stereo. I know that you can get a better quality sound from better speakers...but c'mon man! That's one hell of a price to pay for a pair of 6 1/2" speakers:eek:
Honestly...what sets them apart from Infinity, Alpine, MB Quart, Elemental Design, etc. that makes them worth that price?
It is better connectors, better magnets, ...what?
they are focals, and they are component speakers..
Focal is a good company, and components are always alot more, they are a speaker and a tweeter (usually) combo.
sound clarity.. magnets, voice coils.. theyre all different
i was lookin at gettin components a couple years ago. the reason why i didnt is 1) the price of the speakers and 2) u have to buy new kick panels to install them in, unless u do some modifications to ur door panel. At least thats what i would had to have done to mine - a 95 3.4L w/o the bose system. Heres an example from Crutchfield.
Components definitely add a lot of depth and clarity over the stock speakers tho. Hope this helps
Focal is good stuff man! But don't be supprised, the component sets I really would like to see in my Firehawk are made by a company called McIntosh, and they run about $2800 a pair.
As far as what sets them apart, its all about perfect balance in the high end speakers. MB Quart Q-line is a great matchup to those speakers. In cheaper speakers you can get shrill or not full highs, weak bass or midrange, distortion easily under low or high power. The key in speakers is to build it to handle everything, you want 200hz to snap on your mid range/bass speakers and you want your midrange 800hz-4khz to sound smooth and clean, and your high notes to be able to scream and hold clean without distorting.
Ok, so I'm getting that it's nice sound that they put-out, but it's also the Name Brand that cost's alot too.
I'll just stick with the Alpine Type R's that I bought.

Thanks guys:)
Actually you don't pay alot for the name Focal, as with most European companies, they don't advertise as much.
Actually you paid far more for the name Alpine... Trust me I can get both systems wholesale price. Apline Type R 6 1/2 components I can order for about $85. The Focals you linked to still run me $280ish, and the markup is about double or more on speakers.
Don't get me wrong the Alpines are nice, but there is no comparrison between the two. But also you would have to be an audio nut and a sound quality nut to really want to spend the extra $$ for the little differences, and you would really need a good clean amp and sound dampening to make sure they sound thier best.
Yeah, I'm not a "sound nut" at all! I like a full sound with decent bass. I don't want the bass to be heard 2-3 blocks away, I just like nice surround-sound effect while driving.

Thanks bro :wavey:
No problem, and in that case you should be more than pleased with your Alpines
