  • Power Door Lock Question-Not the Ordinary ?

This is my first post, so bear w/ me. I just purchased a 1999 firebird, and it has no power options. The previous owner must have had an alarm in the car as i found the horn in the engine bay as well as door actuators in the doors, i found the actuators when installing new door speakers. The wiring was still in tact for the actuators, so my question is, what do I need to make the actuators work so that I have power door locks? I obviously need a switch, but what do the 2 wires for each door actuator hook into?

I know it would be easier to buy an alarm and have them hooked into the door wires but I dont want the expense of an alarm system right now. So is there anyway to hook up these acuators so that i have power door locks? Thanks guys

UPDATE: Apparently the car still has the alarm in it. Its a DEI brand. I had thought that the previous owner had taken it out. They did cut the wires to the horn in the engine compartment but they left the alarm brain and all the wiring under the dash. Im not quite sure what this means. And i dont know what i need to get it working again, possibly just the remotes? This sure is interesting.

you need to know the model of alarm it is,then you can buy pretty much anything you want for it,the guides for them are easy to find on the internet to,iv been installing a 791 xv and have found loads of resources to help me.

okay, today i got up under the dash and looked at the alarm brain, it says bulldog on it. But it has a dei relay and a krako siren under the hood. Im not quite sure about this hodgepodge alarm.

Anyways, the alarm brain had no markings on it to determine the model number. it just had bulldog etched into the plastic. Is there anyway to determine the model number at all? Thanks guys, id really like to figure this out so that i could have power door locks (the actuators are there and hooked into the alarm but i dont have any remotes :(

Thanks, I knew that bulldog was crap, but hey, if i only need the remote to make it work, i figured i might as well get one for like $15 ya know. Anyways, I called the tech support and they determined that it was a certain model. So, i bought the remote for that model, we shall see. The only writing on the brain itself was the tech support number, no model number at all, hah.

Another thing, it seems that its more than just an alarm/keyless entry. Its also a remote starter, but i have a 5 speed. These starters werent made to go on manual trans vehicles, and i think this may be a safety issue. What should i do about that? I plan to only use it for the keyless entry feature, but Im worried about accidently starting the car and it being in gear. Thats all, thanks for your time.

i have a 5 speed and my alarm has remote start too,but im not hooking it up.they say that even when the car is in neutral it will hop foward when you use it,plus id have to work around the passkey.the keyless start relay will tie into your wires aruound your steering if its hooked up.youl know the wires for it because they are alot thicker than all the others.if it is hooked up id suggest unplugging it,if yours is like mine you have a seperate harness for it
