Has anyone added a cd changer to their stock Monsoon stereo that utilizes the factory controls and one that also plays MP3s? I'm considering adding one to the car because it could hold TONS of songs versus standard audio discs. I have a stock Monsoon system and don't want to change it out.
And yes, I first did a search for Monsoon and MP3 and turned up nothing. Ideas?

Yes, but there is no mention of whether they will play MP3s. It looks like the Alpine will work with MP3s. What is this adaptor referred to in that link? Is there part number for it? Is the car pre-wired up to the head unit or will I need to order a cable and run it to the front of the car myself? Thanks for any help.
The ability to play MP3s is going to be unit specific. You'll have to look at the CD changer itself. Ie... the alpine may play MP3s while the Kenwood cannot. Or vice versa.
As the link states, many f-bodies are pre-wired for the CD changer. Open the hatch and look along the driver's side for it. It's taped up in foam if I remember right...it'll be right around the hatch speaker.

What about a part number for the Alpine adapter? That would be lots of help. I have tons of MP3 cds and would enjoy being able to listen to them while driving. I spend lots of time in the car. Does it work off the AUX control?

I just spoke with a friend of mine who made this installation on his Z-28 a few years ago. He said the cable that GM installed from the back of the car to the head unit cannot be used with the Alpine cd changer. He had to install a new cable that came with the unit so it took a little doing to get it installed. He's going to get the part number on the adapter for me. Thanks for the info.

Why not buy an iPod Nano and then take all those CD's and
import them into the iPod then buy the connector so that you can plug in the Nano iPod into the Monsoon Radio. You will be able to access much more music with the iPod than a CD changer and it has no moving parts to go wrong like the changer and its cheaper by $100! Attach the Nano to the front of the panel with velcro. The interface for providing you with L and R rca audio input in back of the Monsoon has been discussed many times on this site.
I don't want to have to worry about toting around an Ipod and synching songs with it, etc. I have a portable MP3 player built-in to my cell phone which is nice for cutting the grass, skiing, and such. I really want a cd changer that plays MP3s because I have a ton of regular music cds that I listen to on trips and I don't want to have to deal with changing those over to MP3s or the like. Unfortunately, I'm bad about putting them away when I'm finished with them so they get scratched up. Just leaving them in the cd changer would be a better option. And now they have cd changers that play MP3s, this seems like the better application to my problems.
Yes, many interfaces are discussed on this site. But I need a suggested adapter(s) part NUMBER for connecting the Alpine AI-Net interface directly to my Monsoon stereo because I'm not wanting to gut the entire, original stereo system. I like the Monsoon and want to keep it intact. I don't even care about the display on the Monsoon. I just want to connect the cd changer to the Monsoon and control it using the AUX controls.
I certainly appreciate the ideas, though. I like hearing ideas from others who have created stereo systems that work well for them.
