    Re: radar detector

I have a Escort 8500 x50 and it's been great. but a radar is only good if your going 20-25mph over, more than that you wont have time to slow down, imo. But i still think the 8500 x50 is the best:banana:

        K40 also guarantees it. http://www.k40.com/

I personally bought one off eBay (I know, not the safest thing). I got a FuzzBuster 3500 (I know, funny name :P ), and the thing works good. I've got just enough time to slow down if I'm doing like 15-20 over. I've passed many cops, and at first though my detector wasn't working. I guess they just didn't have a radar going, cuz abit further down the road, my detector started going crazy. About 1/4 mile up the road was a State Trooper. My detector retailed for about $105 + shipping, and I got it for $21 shipped :P. So, I'd say check eBay, there are scammers out there, so be careful. Just search for radar detector, pick out a few you like, and do some research on them, then pick the best one. I just got lucky with mine

          Re: radar detector

I spent many years driving with a radar detector. A detector is not a license to speed. You must remember that they are no more than a tool, like any other tool. They are wonderful if used properly, but if you do not know how to use it, it's completely worthless. The only way they help is if there are cars in front of you being clocked. You can go as fast as you want, as long as there are cars (not just one car) in front of you. The detector will give you plenty of warning... but you absolutely must rely on the cars ahead of you being clocked first. You must never speed when you are alone on the road, because the detector will not help you. You have to take time to learn how it works/behaves, and learn where the interference is and take that into account.

I used mine for 15 years and 300K+ miles and never got nailed.....except for one time when I forgot to turn the thing on :slap:

You must also do more than rely on just the detector. Use your eyes. You have to learn to look for cops and where they might hide. Look far down the road. Use sense when speeding. I have not used a detector for several years now and still have not been caught. I even drive faster now than I used to, because my cars are better. But remember, it's only a matter of time. Eventually I'll get caught. Eventually all of us speeders will get caught. The cop only has to be right once. We have to be right every time. It's the price we pay. Just don't be reckless and hurt yourself or someone else.

As for being pulled over for 51 in a 50.... that should be easily winnable in court. No cop in his right mind would pull someone over for that. It's too contestable. Sounds to me like they have a racket going, and you are being picked on because of the car you drive. You will probably be singled out even if you are going under the speed limit. Good luck.

              cant go wrong with

              V1
              X50
              Bel (above)

              i have a V1

Laser stuff....... maybe if you live in OHIO, i dont think AZ has any laser...... even so unless your lucky, laser stuff tells you you got a ticket...... the viel will help limit the range tho....

rember RD's only reice signals like a car radio
if the cop turns on the radar suddenly your ****ed (happend to me)
if there are no car in front of you your ****ed....

always follow a car like 1/4 mile back that way the cop will peg him and you will get the boucing signals... so you can slow down

LOE's like to have the radar off and then just flip it on cars that look like they are speeding. i know local sherrif and it extreamly fast this way and they don't have to run pop....

i like the V1 boggy count and arrows tho

                Re: radar detector

People. Let me end this urban legend. THERE IS NO TICKET QUOTA. Ask any COP and he'll tell you. I used to work at the Sheriff's Office, and I can confirm there is no ticket quota. However, they do have contests every now and then. One of my deputy buddies nailed a guy w/7 tickets in one stop. You may have gotten busted for that reason, a little contest among the cops, but not because "it's the end of the month".

As for you question, a buddy of mind has the escort that mounts in the front and back of the exterior of the car. He speeds ALL the time, and has yet to get a tickets. (he's had it for 2 years now)

                  Re: radar detector

Yep, I can confirm that non-quota thing.

I was at a lake.... drinking... publicly, and underage. I had the smart (yeah... smart?) idea that I could outrun the officer that had to chase me. I stopped about 10 feet into the chase, and thought to myself "Why the hell am I trying to outrun this guy... wait, because Im drunk, thats why" but I stopped, he told me to sit down, went through his routine, and we started chatting, and I said "Yeah, its your job, and it was a stupid mistake on my part, thats for sure, and you guys have quotas to fill" he says "Actually, no, we dont have any quotas" then I say "Oh, hmm, I always thought you guys did" then he got kinda mad and said "Hey, Im not done my lecture yet."

I got a liquor ticket, consider myself lucky to this day though, he coulda tasered me because I was running away, and could have given me an under 18 posession ticket. He was a cop from a larger city about 2 hours away though (yeah, it was a big weekend at this lake, probly about 20 cops there, for a town of 2500)

The cops are pretty leniant here though, my neighbor (which is the town cop) has let me off a few more times then he should have, and for a lot more stuff then Id get busted for in a larger community. Just the other day, my buddy got a flat in his truck (thats another story :P) so we were ripping up the highway at 130 km/h (speed limit 70 km/h through town) he just looked at us, and waved his finger (not the middle one, his pointer) at us.
