geez man. sucks to live there. I have gone by cops going 7-8 over. Directly past them and they dont do anything. Thats my max pretty much 7-8 over NO MORE! Except open highways or country roads:naughty:

Just go to court man. 51 in a 50?! I think you could get that thrown out easily. Totally unjustified and insane, what kind of a dirty cop would do that is beyond me.

ya i figured that to but there is a good chance i will lose... because i have gone to this court 3 times each time same judge and he laphs when he sees me now...... i just need a radar detc. so when they are hiding in the bushes i might have a chance to know they are there before i get to them... the radar everyone on the road so if i am behind someone i could slow down before....doom

                Re: radar detector

as much as we all freak out about getting pulled over for 1 MPH over the speed limit, you WERE speeding - don't be so surprised that you got nailed. It's the end of the month, and all the cops need to get as many tickets as they possibly can. You just happened to get caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

that being said, the cheap radar detectors you can get at radioshack or whatever aren't really much help with today's radar and laser technology. The only benefit they give is if someone else ahead of you gets lit up, since cops today have instant-on radar and laser. It's not like the 70's when the radar was always on and was easily detected. If you really want to give yourself a fighting chance to slow down before the cops can get a good reading, you'll need the following:

http://www.radarbusters.com/products/coatings/veil.asp - Veil Anti-Laser coating. Laser guns are usually aimed at the vehicle's headlights. Veil is a clear coating that you put on the lights to absorb the laser. Reduces the gun's effectiveness by 50%.

http://www.radarbusters.com/products...er/default.asp - Blinder Laser Jammer. Combined with the Veil coating, the cop's laser gun becomes useless.

http://www.radarbusters.com/products...sti_driver.asp - Beltronics STi radar detector - Provides warning for instant-on radar and laser and is invisible to all radar detector detectors.

It's all expensive stuff. But, I would think it's worth it to save yourself from hundreds of dollars more in tickets and insurance costs.

Or, take the easy way out - change your driving habits. Go a little under the speed limit.

Right, but we all know that cops don't pull people over for going 1 mph over the speed limit. I have driven around and near police cruisers COUNTLESS times going more than 1 mph over the speed limit! Never in my life have I heard of a cop pulling over someone for going 51 in a 50 zone, that's got to be the most asinine thing a cop could ever do.

I'm not saying it's not stupid. Believe me, I'd be just as pissed off as the next person if it happened to me. My point is that, by law, he was speeding and the cop's job is to enforce that law. He was being a total **** for enforcing a small infraction, but you shouldn't be surprised given that it's the end of the month - everyone knows the cops have quotas to fill (which is illegal, and they won't admit to it), and there's nothing you can do about it except drive like your grandmother.

                      Re: radar detector

Theres a small town in Va called Emporia that is like that. No matter what part of the month it is they sit on the highway and run radar and pull people over for going 1MPH over the limit and the tickets they write standup in court.

If your worried about getting the ticket dropped have you tried the calibration way? Go get your speedo "calibrated" and tell them what happened and why your there and you "think" its wrong. They'll charge 75 bucks or so and recalibrate it saying it was off by 3-4 mph and your good to go.

by law nothing, you can be pulled over for speeding/going under the limit/// they tell you the only way you will be safe is to conform to the other drivers... thats what i did. every one else was doing 51-53 so i went with the slower crowed and set my cc to 51... i have been to the driving school thing. and they tell you not to slow down but do the speed every one else is doing.. and when the cops are hiding here they will hit every car with the gun. so if i stay one or two back i can do what i can either to turn off or slow down....

but let's say you're doing 49 instead of 51. You're within the limit, regardless of what everyone else is doing. There'd be no way the cop could pull you over for speeding.

the point is, drive SMART. know where and when you need to watch out for the police. don't rely on other drivers or a crappy radar detector to protect you.

                            Re: radar detector

My personal opinion.... they are a waste. Couple days ago I was riding in a friends car who has a radar detector. Just cruising along when all of a sudden, the detector pegged out at 10. It's going nuts. I look, and sure enough. There's a cop STANDING on the side of the road shooting at us. We weren't speeding, but I was wondering what the hell is the point in the detector if it's just going to go from silent/0 to going nuts/10 instantly? Great. Now you know you're being hit with radar..... good for you.... you're already busted.

Now then.... I realize different radar bands/laser may be different. Different traffic situations may be different. But if this detector is only going to save me a fraction of the time at best..... is it worth $300+ (or whatever) to have it? How many tickets do you really get in a 3 year period lets say? Is it even worth the 500,000 false alarms you get everytime you drive to the store? **** no.

Guess I should keep my personal opinions out of this thread, since he's already set on getting one and is just asking opinions on models.... but hey.... its all good. But lets try to keep it a little on topic. Please don't turn this into an off-topic war about when a cop can pull you over etc...:)

I'm not sure of the brand but there is a company that will pay your ticket if you get one. I'm sure if you search it you will find what company offers that guarantee
