i piad around 275 for a custom sub/amp rack, they also ran speaker wires/rca/;power wires so it was prolly around 225 for the custom work. My pics are on this page

I paid $295 for the T-top box shipped from subthump. That is due to me being extremely lazy and slightly unskilled.

Why take your car to a shop and let them jack with your car? Why take the chance of having some bonehead put a scratch in it while it's there? Or better yet use your car to build out of and make a mess out of it. Those guys in those shops don't specialize in f-bodies and who knows what the end product will be when they say they can do a box?

At least you know what you are getting at Subthump. A high quality product build by guys who specialize in F-bodes--that comes highly recommended, and will drop right into your car as it should. You don't have to try to schedule an appointment to get your car in or have some greasy guy tell you how it's going to be. THAT'S WHY.

Megabass speaks the truth. You're really not going to find anything better quality at a local shop. And subthump may even be a hair cheaper then a quote from your local shop.... should be pretty close...

MegaBass-what kind of shady shops do you frequent? Of course I would check out the work of any shop I had work on my vehicle. Any custom audio installed can take measurements and make a quality box. Of course I do have a repoirt w/ my local shop, and I assume that at least some here do, I also like to support local business, just my 2 cents

They are all over. Places just want to do a quick job to take advantage of people. I hear the horror stores all the time.

And you can't just "take measurements" in order to get a box to fit areas like these. That's fine for square boxes or simple wedges. But to get the best fit in a complex 3-dimensional area, you have to measure, cut and build. Fit, tear down or re-build, fit, alter, fit, etc. That takes time. It happened to me long ago. The box builder decided to cut boards and lay them in my car. Not only did the inside of my car smell like ***, but the saw he was using was right next to my car so it had dust all over it. Plus the box I got was a $300 piece of crap. So I vowed I could do it better.

I've already used my own camaro to come up with these designs so that the next person doesn't have to take their car to a shop and have some guy cutting and fitting inside of it. You've heard the saying why re-invent the wheel. Same thing. Already done it, it's a proven design. I just can't see why anyone would hesitate in getting one.

My boxes fit better. Have more air space, they match the interiors of these cars perfect. We use nice vinyl cover on the top and you can pick out a logo you like. The holes are cut perfect to the speakers you're using--Not some jigsaw crap they did to my first box. My T-top boxes will even let you store the tops. And my boxes are light. About 28lbs out of special 3/4" mdf. So In my opinion, my boxes are an exceptional value compared to anything you can get for a comparable price at some "local shop". Without leaving your ride with them. Most ppl need their wheels anyhow.

MegaBass- I am in no way saying that your boxes arent very nice and a solid, quality product. I have read numerous reviews and they all highly regard your product. Now, I do feel that any competent shop can do a fine job of building a custom box. I would never frequent any shop that doesnt do a high quality job in the first place. I would urge anyone that does choose a shop, to look over thier previous work and make sure its of good quality. That said, I personally found it more convienent to have a local shop that i trust build me a custom box, if I didnt have a good local shop here I would of undoubtedly ordered from subthump. That is all

Re: pricing for a custom sub box

But how do you know what kind of work they do? I guess if you are familiar with a particular shop and their work, then that is an advantage you have. But what if this is your very first time having something done? I really don't know how you will get a feel for "their work". Most of their work leaves the shop upon completion. Not sitting around for people to gauk at. Would you rather trust a guy in the back that says Hmm camaro, yeah we can do that. Or would like rather shop on my site and look at nearly hundreds of Customer photos of their boxes and installs in the F-bodies.

I'd much rather look at f-body stuff versus any other vehicle because that's what I would be interested in most. Not Acuras or Hondas or Nissans. F-bodies.

Most times, these places whisk you in and sell you a bunch of junk before you even know what happened. I certianly don't like those sales people that sick on ya like a rabid dog hot after your money. I'd rather compare on my own pick out what I want, not what they want me to buy. I'm just trying to get guys to look at it from all angles because it can happen and does. I hear about it quite often. In fact I've had guys come to me for boxes after they've already been screwed over by another place and didn't get what they wanted and had other troubles dealing with such places.
