  • Front Turn Signals not working

I wish I would have known about what I was to encounter before I bought this car, but oh well. Anyways, the car has a remote start/alarm installed. Come to find out the remote start shouldnt have been installed on a manual car, but thats for another post. SO, back to the question, apparently the remote start/alarm is hooked up to the front turn signal lights because when i use the remote to lock/unlock my doors, the signals flash. Thats the only time they come on, they dont come on when my turn signal is on. The rears work fine. What should I check? I know a little about wiring, but I wouldnt attempt to install an alarm and the wiring under the dash is intimidating. Please help me solve this. Thanks

side note, do our cars have DRL's? If so, those arent working either, heh

You should probably take the remote starter off and then try the turn signals. If they work, there's something in the remote unit that only allows power at certain times. Maybe the remote starter unit disengages any power through it once the car is running...dunno.

would simply unplugging the unit be okay?

edit: is it going to be hell if i decide to have a shop put a new alarm in and install power windows? I mean, my personal judgement is that the wiring is butchered and an ameteur installed the remote start, are they going tohave a tough time redoing the wiring for a new alarm?

A remote start isn't really something that any joe schmoe could install, alarms aren't all that easy either. Who cares if they have a tough time, if you take it to a good, certified place its their job to do it

yeah, thats what i figured, i do think however that some joe schmoe installed the one currently in there :( as evidenced by the amount of wood used to install an alarm, dont ask.

            I have a 5spd. I installed a remote start.

The reason your ' not supposed to ' have them is mainly liability.
Most people put their car in gear when the vehicle is parked, and if you remote start it, it will jump forward.

I bypassed my clutch safety switch, and leave my car in neutral at all times with the parking brake set.

You can't simply just unplug the 'brain', because of how the unit is wired in.
Take it to best buy, or circuit city, they will probably charge you around 50 dollars give or take to remove the alarm and fix the wires under the dash.
