This isnt car audio related but here i go...

Ok, i have dual 12" subs in my room hooked up to my kenwood reciever, and it sounds great but i want a little more. Ive heard of people doing this before, but i was wondering if anyone had ideas of how to wire up an amp to use in my room. Ive asked someone before and they said computer power supply and i was just wondering if there was somthing cheaper?

Pretty certain a computer power supply is not going to be able to provide that amp with the current draw it requires. You would need an AC to DC power supply. They're not cheap for the amount of current you will be drawing. (Well over $100) You'd be much better off buying an amp for home audio 115V AC.

What about a plate amp, these are for home use but i never knew how you would use them.

One of the most technologically advanced subwoofer amplifiers on the market!
This new subwoofer amplifier is based on state-of-the-art Class G circuit topology that combines the proven high power, high fidelity characteristics of a Class AB amplifier with a patented tracking down converter power supply to achieve an operating efficiency up to 86%. You get the efficiency of a Class D amplifier without compromising audio quality and reliability. The class AB output stage provides the clean and low-distortion sound that audiophiles demand, without any instability problems of other high-efficiency amplifier designs. This American designed and engineered amplifier uses patented circuitry that continuously tracks the input signal to modulate or control the voltage available to the output stage. This "tracking" capability delivers the exact amount of power based on demand instead of constantly keeping it in reserve, so the output stage only draws the amount of power that is required at any given time. This means less energy is wasted as heat, and more power is available for the subwoofer driver.

      Features:

High power class AB output stage
      Patented tracking downconverter power supply
      Full parametric bass EQ
      Low-pass crossover: 30 - 200 Hz, 24 dB/octave
      Phase reversal switch
      Advanced soft clip circuitry
      Toroidal power supply transformer
      Auto On/Off
      Specifications:

      512 watts RMS @ 8 ohms
      1024 watts RMS @ 4 ohms
Signal to noise ratio: 98 dB (A-weighted)
      Dimensions: 11-15/16" W x 11-15/16" H x 5-1/4" D

^^ That looks nice but, spendy.

There has to be an easier way, how do they do it at the electronics stores? Anyone know of someone who works there or does work there?

You should go to an electronics store and see for yourself. Just don't ask the sales rep any questions (their lack of knowledge is generally overcompensated by their motivation to sell).

                Re: Room stereo

I worked at a car stereo shop. The display board was powered by some kind of transformer. It was a sealed metal box about 16" squared and weighed 40lbs. I am sure this is a much more expensive route than what was already mentioned about getting the AC/DC converter.

                  Re: Room stereo

you're best off going to bestbuy or another electronics store and buying a powered subwoofer. I have dual 12"s on my floor speakers but the bass output isn't that great because of the amp. So I bought a 10" 100W sub for like $150 and the power output is great, i can shake the house and be heard blocks away.
