Re: stereo
What you are referring to is the headunit. (AKA CD Player, tape deck, DVD player....etc)
On the rear of the headunit is the wiring harness. It IS all the wires in one easy to use plug. Example:
Once you have the headunit out of the dash cavity, you will see how this plug disconnects from the headunit. Exactly how any other plug on the car would.
To add a subwoofer to the factory system, you would need a line output convertor. Example:
This has inputs for the factory speaker leads to go in one end (which you will need to tap into) and give you RCA outputs. Then its the same as with any other aftermarker headunit. RCA cables to amp.

Re: stereo
how do you get all of the stock wires out of that plug to put them into the line output converter? and does the line output converter just sit behinfd the headunit? and where does the line output converter plug into?
also do i have to have a specific line output converter or can it be anythingLast edited by jerminator623; 10-11-2006, 07:40 PM.http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2151539/1

You use RCA patch cables to go from the line output converter to the amp:

Re: stereo
so do you cut the wires from the harness then you stick them into the line output adapter then do you hook the line output adapter to the radio? or do you not have to cut the wires at all?
would this adapter make it so i dont have to cut the wires?

Re: line output adapter
Bro. I answered this several times.
The speaker leads coming from the back of the headunit...... tap into the rear ones. These are the inputs for the line output converter. Buy a set of RCA patch cables like I pictured above. These are the output for the line output converter. Plug the patch cables into the line output converter and then to your amp.

And this isn't what you're looking for either. This is for inputs to the stock radio, not outputs to an amp.
For the line out converters you're looking at, you can tap into the rear speaker wires behind the radio, or anywhere else in the car. It may be easier to tap into the wires running near the spare tire, and then you'd only need short RCA patch cables to the amp. All a matter of preference, really.\'98 Camaro V6
Appearance... pleasing
Performance... just a little extra air.

Re: line output adapter
You should tap them into your rear speakers. I had one of those setups when i had a stock radio and when you put subs to a stock radio, the way you turn them down is to fade more to the front, so you don't have to get out and turn it down on your amp. Y i say to tap into the back is because most people like the music in the front of the car so you can hear it.Check out my car on cardomain.com!!!
http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=844739
