    I personally like sealed box for their sound quality......my friend had a bandpass box and i think they sound like sh*t......... if you wanna impress your friends, wanna be loud (without much sound quality) then go ahead, get bandpass......but for sound quality sealed box ftw....especially with alpines...... (i think) dual voice coils and single voice coils are same, loudness wise ......i think it's for load perpose (i.e. 1 ohm, 2 ohm, or 4 ohm) .... type r are some kicka$$ subs ...even type s is cool.... :)

        OK. Read the section about speakers and all in the mod encyclopedia, but none of the pictures work for me.

        For the first one, that should be a 1, not a 16, is that right? I think I've picked out my subs. Fairly cheap ones, but they look good and have and good reviews. They're 4ohm DVC 400W RMS for the 10's and 500W RMS for the 12's. I'm thinking 2 10's, and maybe a 12 to go with them. Or 2 12's and a 15 to go with them.

          The first pic is actually 1 ohm and the second is 4 ohms. In the first pic, each sub is wired in parallel for a 2 ohm load.... then the subwoofers themselves are wired in parallel for a 1 ohm load. Try this: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages.php?page_id=161

          Also, DO NOT mix sizes of subwoofers. If you're looking for more then two 12"s, go with three 12"s or two 15"s. Speaking of which, grab a pair of 15" L7's and this box:

          Give them some power and you'll be closin in on that 150db mark!!!!:eek:

            Ya, I said it should be a 1ohm load, not 16, simple typing error :P

            So I shouldn't mix speaker sizes, would it be alright if I hooked 2 10's together and gave the 12 it's own amp, but put them all in the same box. And thanks for that link, I understand it better now, and have a quick reference quide:banana:

            And, I would buy your box, but it's out of my price range. Plus, then I'd miss out on the fun of making my own box. My dad and I are thinking of making it, and we've got friends who're into fiberglassing, so we should hopefully make out OK. Hopefully, I'm buying the subs sometimes this week.

              Re: good, yet cheap set-up?

              I'm still looking for a good amp. I want either a mono or bridgable 2 channel. Looking for around 1000W. So far, I've got these 4 picked out:
              1 2 3 4

              I'm thinking the legacy because:
              1-They're a reliable brand
              2-The amp is red, so it matches my car

              The Pyle Elite looks good too, but I wasn't too sure if it's a good brand. If it is, then I'd rather get it then the Legacy. And, none of those amps say 1ohm stable. So, I'm going to need to rewire my subs then, right? I was thinking just series/parallel wiring to give it 4ohms.

                Please don't get them.....you won't be satisfied with their sound quality.... Ok lets see, you want 12s, you have $350, and you'll make you own box .....

                Amplifier = Hifonics 600 RMS @ 4ohm = $145

                Subwoofers = wired together @ 4ohm =$173

                here's how you will wire it Option 2 ......i personally didn't used Hifonics but i have heard good things about them.....with your custom sealed box , you will be happy ...... :)

                      yeah i use an audiobahn sub and i would not really advise anyone to get it. i got a really good deal on it. it will get loud and sound quality is OK at 2.75ohm in a sealed enclosure, but *given your price range, i suggest that you shop around and LISTEN to the subs before buying them.*

                            the only thing about the pyle square tens they want 2 cubic feet of air a piece but i found they sound best with about 1.25 but sound terrible in a ported box

                              dual voice coils can ad strenght, volume, and clarity. 12's will sound bad with anything but rap. the square shape reproduces lower freq better than round 10s and is way clearer than a round twelve. wire 2 tens at 1 ohm with that pyle mono block your at 1200watts rms those tens are 500rms and 1200 peak wired properly there almost a perfect match

                                ok one last thing and i'll shut up. having a deck that you can send the proper freq to the proper components makes every thing a hell of a lot clearer regardless of what you have. hope my posts have helped
