  • Problem with keyless entry..

Alright I bought my car without a remote for keyless entry. I posted up and found out i had it, but just didn't have the remote. Posted my vin, and bought this remote on ebay:

    GM 16245100-29
    CANADA:218101368
    MODEL/FCCID:A801502T

It worked great for a while after programming it, BUT after a few weeks of programming it, I will walk up to the car, hit unlock, and the drivers door will unlock(twice quickly), but the parking lights will not flash like every other time i unlock it. After this happens, the remote no longer works, not for locking, not for unlocking, not for anything. I have to reprogram it at this point and it lasts however long until it happens again.

Sometimes i will unlock it and it will unlock, but the parking lights won't flash. But it only unlocks once, and it doesn't loose the code, and if i hit unlock again, it will flash the lights and everything works fine.

It always flashes the lights and honks twice when i lock it.

I thought it would be an easy fix, so i replaced the battery, but that didn't do anything.

What the heck is going on?

    SPARKNOTES:

Sometimes randomly i will hit unlock on my remote; the car's parking lights don't flash, but the car unlocks twice quickly. After this, the remote doesn't work until i reprogram it.

ok trying not to be a postwhore like wat was said in the other thread but the reason ur car didnt come with the key fob in the first place was prob cause the other guy had the same problems there is probably something wrong in the computer of the alarm. I personally would get a new keyless entry system with like remote starter

i was thinking about getting the remote starter add-on that works with the factory keyless entry/alarm system, but that is assuming it's the remote that is giving me problems... what do you guys suggest i do? I could try to find someone with the same remote and see if they will trade me for a while to see if it's my remote..?

I would like to note that the remote i got on ebay was used..

do it add the remote start thats what I did for under 150 then add a cutout it will sound bad *** on start up especially idle then your gonna want headers and a cam to make it sound like that even when you are driving

eric, what was the specific remote starter you got? did you install it yourself? how was that?

Exhaust is another issue haha, I only have a borla muffler for now, hopefully with christmas will come an aluminum driveshaft and finished catback. I might get a cutout later and headers are on the list too, just not yet.

              Re: Problem with keyless entry..

this is the exact remote starter I bought for my camaro but it was cheaper than that price like 20 or 25 dollars. Then I bought the bypass module for it off ebay for like 12 dollars and got it installed for 100 dollars but different shops have different prices so you might be able to make them go down on the installation price. The only flaw on my remote starter is that they had to disable my trunk button so when I hit the trunk button twice it turns on with no problems at all I never used the trunk button much anyway so now it gives me a good reason to use it. As for the cutout its the cheapest upgrade you can do and its very loud at idle but after miles of driving it quiets down.

Here is the link for that remote starter good luck http://cgi.ebay.com/ADD-REMOTE-START...QQcmdZViewItem

hmm..is there a remote start system that uses your factory alarm system, but not the factory remotes? I was just thinking, if my remote looses the code all the time now, what would stop it when i have remote start, i thought the package you got included new remotes..

also, do you have a link to the bypass module?

I wouldn't worry about that so much your problem may not be with your remote it could be the computer or anything thats very simple try unplugging the battery and check your fuses

                    Re: Problem with keyless entry..

You cannot connect an aftermarket remote start to your car's stock alarm/keyless entry. You will have to upgrade to an aftermarket alarm. If you try hooking it up, it will set your stock alarm off everytime you start your car with a remote.

As for your remote that you purchased off of Ebay going on the fritz, I would recommend you take it to a GM dealer and see if they will program it for you. You possibly may be programming it incorrectly for the model # of your keyless entry. It sounds like that is what's happening and causing it to go crazy.

Good luck with getting that remote fixed.

                      Re: Problem with keyless entry..

that is a lie this is the exact same setup I have and it works fine don't speak on nothing you haven't did I have proff all you need is the bypass if your car have a chip on the key. This bypass kit is made by gm for our stock alarm systems so that we can keep them and not have to change them go and check out the links I provided for him. My only advice is to get it installed by a professional shop they may have to deactivate your trunk button to get it to work but thats not a problem at all. All you do is push your trunk button twice to turn on the car and push it once to turn off the car plain and simple.

Please don't give advice on things you haven't did because all this does is hold people back from doing stuff to thier cars that they will benefit from
