  • cd player issue!!

Hey guys, I have a pioneer head unit, a 200 watt amp and 2 10" subs... but, i was driving the other day and I smelled what seemed like a burnt wire smell, then my sound just quit. I checked all the fuses with no luck. The cd player registers like its playing but I'm getting no sound from any of the speakers... Any ideas about what the problem could be??

Are you getting anything from the subs? And what model head unit is it?

Thats a hard one to figure out. All I can say is to check all of the speaker wires,.. especially the ground wires,.. If the cd player is registering and acting like it is working, than it should just be a problem with the speaker wires.

First you need to do is make sure there are no shorts in the speaker wires. This can be done by removeing the radio from the dash and disconnecting the speaker wires. Then connect them to a speakers that you know works. If all of the channels (front and rear) will play through the speaker than chances are you have a short in a speaker wire. Many radios will protect themselves from a short in a speaker wire by shutting down their internal amplifiers. You can not tell by jsut looking at the radio. The only sign is the loss of sound. Also you should check one of the speakers by removing it from your car and hooking it up to something like a home sound system to make sure they work. If the speaker works then the problems is either your radio or a short in a speaker wire.
