  • New Window motors, which?

    Hi,

I see lots of replacement window motors for the Firebird at very cheap prices on Ebay and probably Chinese. Can anyone recommend a supplier of some reasonable ones that might last, without paying the dealer prices.

    Thanks

Autozone. Can't remember the brand name off hand, but it's about $55 each with a lifetime warranty.

I agree. The only reason to buy one from Autozone is just incase it burns out, you can get it replaced immediately. I know buying them online is cheaper, but if one burns out (which is common) you have to send it back and wait.

FYI: Don't ever buy one that's used. You never know how many days it has left in it.

They're all slow. I replaced my driver window and was expecting to to be faster than the orginal passenger window, but it's still super slow. The size of the window motor isn't big enough to have any torque so it is slow and annoying. They should make some higher quality ones that actually move the window..

No, slow is good. Slow and easy is always good for window speed. When they start going fast is when they can come a little loose or worse, rub against the trim and scratch your tint or even worse, the glass.

Has anyone replaced them there self, My drivers side window has been gone for about two years. Always spending my car money elsewhere. Anyways my passengers going out and I was told let someone who knows what there doing fix it because if some spring pops you'd never be able to fix it.
estamates up to about $200. Is this true if not is it easy to fix.

Done it myself 3 times. Not SUPER easy.... but by no means hard. I wouldn't pay someone even $100 to do it...

I've done 3, I did the first one in about an hour. Much easier after you've done it before.

Replacement is easy. I have Very little mechanical experience, and at that time, not a lot of tools. Not that I have everything most of the guys here have. But if you have a drill, flat, and phillips head screwdrivers..... You have everything you need. It was probably easier then putting a thormostat in..... Since you have to drain a little coolant, and such. =)
