Get the MTX's. The speakers are of great quality, but the MTX amps are something else..............I would be willing to say for the past 8 years MTX amps have been of godlike quality.
Remember, the speakers can be crap as long as they do not blow easily. As speakers only represent 5% of how well your bass sounds. The rest is in the size/type of wires you use, your amp (big factor) and your sub enclosure (other major factor).

Eh I would say a lot more than 5% if things are done properly...
Key point being everything else being done properly.
You can't make a MTX be as clean as a Focal, if the box and amp are the same and built properly.
id takes some nice speakers over a sub anyday, im not the wigger type.

Lol thats grand!
But no honestly a small sub is the single biggest difference you can make with about any audio system. You would be surprised at what a single 10" can do to a stock Ac Delco system. It really brings it to life, and makes everything fill much better.
Now granted for "GOOD" sound you still need to do the rest...
But woofers don't mean you have to have it thundering loud bass.
 I'm not going to tell to get the subs or anything i have found that the best set up for the firebirds in my opinon is a set of 6.5 pioneer D series and some nice 6x9 with 360watt going to the set of 6,5 and a 500 going to the 6x9 it really makes the sound system sound great. My car has been mistaken for having subs with this system so i love it. The only problam is with it wasnt a cheap stero but it was well worth it.
