  • Looking for replacement radio for 98 Fbird

My original Delco non Monsoon CD receiver is slowing dying. The CD is skipping severely and at times some of the display segments do not illuminate. I really hate to switch to an aftermarket unit but looks like this is my only recourse. I looked at the Crutchfield site and practically every radio they list for a 98 bird has a disclaimer that major mods may have to be done to make these units fit in my dash and wire up correctly. Does any one know of a decent aftermarket CD receiver that will fit my car without major work? I'm not that choosy about power output, but if possible would like to have orange display illumination to match the rest of the dash lighting such as gauges, etc.

Any help with this is truly appreciated

I installed a JVC in dash CD Receiver in my 93 Firebird. The illumination is red so it matches the guages very well. I bought everything at Best Buy. You need to buy a dash kit, wiring harness adapter, and an antenna adapter. Installation was actually very easy and it looks great. I did not have to cut any factory wires. I could take some photos if you would like.

I replaced the radio in my old 2000 firbird this past summer. I picked up a Kenwood Excelon KDC-790 for about $190.00 on ebay. This was about half the price of Crutchfield. It has the orange lights for the buttons and such. The screen has several different displays but you can load you own. All it took to install it was a mounting kit and wiring kit from Walmart. I think it I payed about $25.00 for both. I can't remember if it came with an antenna adapter or not. If not you will need one. It turned out nice. I would take some pics but this is the car my son totaled in Sept. My new 2000 has a Monsson so I installed it in his Grand Am. I hoped this helped.

Happen to look at the harnesses in WalMart the other day. All the GM ones seem to include the antenna adapter.

It is a JVC model KD-G120. It is not at all an expensive unit. It was around $79 at Best Buy. Great sound. The buttons light up red, and the display is sort of green.
