2 subs, OK to use bridged?

I've read the faq on this page, but didnt find it, unless i overlooked it...

I have an Alpine 2 channel amp running 2 10" subs mono, left output to left sub, right output to right sub, not bridged, for amp stability. It sounds good, but i would like to try bridging the amp just to check.

Whats the best way for 2 subs?

Paralell - amp+ to sub1+, then on to sub2+
amp- to sub1-, then on to sub2-
-or-

Series - amp+ to sub1+, sub1- to sub2+
sub2- back to amp-

or is it just not a good idea to bridge an amp using 2 subs?? - Paul

we would really like to know what the amp/speakers are rated at Max in bridged mode? Ohms?
The amp itself should indicate where to put your 2 wires (- and +) for bridged mode. As for the wiring topology(config)...gotta know if the speakers/amp can handle it in 2ohm mode(bridged).

Sorry, I am not at all an audio genius and dont even study it.
At first, I thought you were wanting to bridge 2 amps together. haha

I'd wire it in a series (amp + to sub1's plus, from sub1's minus to sub 2's plus, and then from sub2's minus to amp minus), but like slow6 said, it'd help if we knew the sub and amp specs.

We have to at least know the Max and RMS wattage rating of the speaker, the amps Max and RMS ratings bridged. If you don't know then jsut post the speaker and amplifiers model numbers and brands and I can look them up and give you a direct answer.

it's bad for the amp and the power you gain from it in turn can be bad for the subs...I ran 2 amps w/ 3 12's, with both amps bridged, for year and a half before I blew anything (and I had sony equipment so i'm sure alpine can take it)

Give us the specs on your subs and amp, or even a model number, and we'll take it from there man.

gime the ohm rating on your subs are the DVC or SVC (dual or single voice coil) and whats the ohm range u need to operate your amp in i'll tell ya how to wire it up. I ran 2 mtx dvc the voiceoils run in series and the subs run in parrallel to a bridged sony never had a problem ran it for 3 years

This is how mine is wired up. I used to just have one VC wired until I figured out that they werent hitting very hard. I didnt even know that I could do that.

Has this turned into a brand slam discussion? Because if we are going to start on that, I'm sure there are a few of us on here, a very "SELECT" few who would call 99.9% of the equipment out there trash... And the stuff we have 99% of you have never even heard of....

Sub models would be nice and the model of the amplifier..

It really all depends on the impedance of the voice coils, and what the amp is stable at. With some amps you can run them lower than what they claim, but do take a risk at blowing the outputs. If you can get me that info, I'll make a little draw up of how to wire it for you for the best output and still playing it safe so you don't blow anything up.

it's an older amp, stable to 2 ohms (to bridge 1 sub, maybe?) I never really pay attention to peak amp rating, but i think the RMS is somewhere around 50 - 75w. I do not have the manual for it anymore, can't find it; I'll have to check the model # this weekend-I'm usually not on this board on weekends so i'll have to report back next week. (pretty much just at work, haha)

The subs are 500watt max MTX, SVC, but don't remember RMS
They are also in separate sealed boxes

no, not bridging 2 amps, rather bridge 1 amp for 2 subs
maybe i should try bridging the amp for 1 sub, but then i would have an extra sub - but it would stare at me, as if to say put me back in that car, you know you wanna! But i don't want to buy another amp either

oh - and yes, the amp is bridgeable and indicates +/- terminals to use. Also has built in crossover (high/low pass filters)

With single voice coils subs, you're going to have to run a series setup. Even if they're 4 ohm SVC. Odds are your amp cannot handle a 2 ohm load when bridged. Connect one sub's - to the other sub's +. Use the two remaining + and - to connect to the amp. If you're using 2 ohm SVCs.... should be about the same power out.
