Battery Relocation to Spare Area?
So I searched but didn't really find this subject touched upon greatly. I couldn't find the thread on search but I recall a discussion of relocating the battery to the spare area at the bottom while having a nitrous bottle still mounted on the jack/tire brackets(I swore I read this in the nitrous section but can't find it..). Anyways any insight on this? What would be required to do this? I can't think of any negatives from this besides being a pain to change/charge the battery I think the positives of weight in the rear and at the passenger area at that too. So I guess......discuss?

you are not suppose to have a battery in the passenger compartment. issues with gases from the battery. try searching like LS1tech or something. they do it a lot for racing purposes. its fairly simple but i have never done it so I do not know they details. mainly I can just think of is the proper size wires, the box and vent and some way to mount. -

by the time you relocate your battery to the trunk the needed wiring and everything to complete it will not save you any weight by doing it. If you don't need the space for an intercooler or whatever in the engine bay just leave it in the engine bay.
I have never seen someone putting the battery and the nitrous bottle in the spare tire area. I don't even think there is enough room for both.Comment

I've tried this mod out before.
Its dangerous because the cables (if not the right kind or not installed properly), the cables themselves could be a bad fire hazard! They MUST have a fuse
If your battery grounds out, theres probably a high risk of explosion and from what I heard its a really bad explosion! (not considering acid,etc)
The battery could get really hot sitting back there (underneath a window too).
Conclusion: After running all the extra wire, you're car will probably not get as much juice as it should.

i know there are cars that have the battery in the trunk from the factory.. my dad's old 04 lincoln LS was one of those. I would figure out what cars are like that and go around to used car dealerships and ask to take a look at one and make mental notes of what was done. Also, i know optima batteries arent supposed to give off any appreciable gasses so that might also be a consideration.

Well from all my training for my heating company...when running longer wire you must move the guage of the wire up to help preserve the voltage. But thats for really long distances. Just my two bits...Personally I like that little rectangular pad they gave us in the engine bay....Comment

I put the battery in the bed of my truck because all the metal in cut out under the hood. But then again, the bed of my truck in completely cut out too and there's 12 batteries back there. I always enjoyed giving myself a jump start if needed.Last edited by Bonemaro; 08-31-2007, 11:34 AM.

the reloaction kits come with sealed boxes and they are vented to the atmosphere. the front right corner atleast on a fourth gen is almost 300 lbs heavier than the right rear. the right front is the heaviest corner and the right rear is the lightest. makes alot of sense to relocate the battery. i agree also though that it would be a good idea to se the optima. you'll gain some weight but it will be worth it with not having the maintenance and haveing the power to crank the engine. other than that the spray bottle can go in there also just mount it on the fender portion up higher unless your running a big bottle.Comment
