Amp Help

Im thinking of getting two 12''kicker s7's and i wanted to know what you think about amps. I want to get as close to the rms (i think 750w) as i can. i am thinking of getting (2) one channel amps, or, (1) two channel amp, or (1) one channel amp. if i get two amps, i would hook one to each sub. the two channel, one to each channel. and i went to circuit city and the have 2 subs hooked up to a one channel amp, and it sounded pretty good, i just dont know how to do that. So, keeping in mind that i want as close to 750 to each sub, what amp should i get. also, i want to keep the price of the amp(s) under 400 or 500.

I'm assuming you mean L7s, not S7s. I'd say get 2 4ohm models (06S12L74) and run them both off (1) one-channel amp. Find an amp that can do 1500WRMS @ 1ohm and you're set. But trust me, those subs will get hella loud in an F-body. I have 2 12" L5s (the L7's little brother) and they pound like no other. But if you are set on 2 12" L7s, get the 1500WRMS one-channel amp.

Well, that amp does seem great, but it says the rms is 1100 and 1600, would that ruin my subs at all, or be too much power? Also, i was thinking of getting a kicker amp, do you recomend the hifonics over kicker?

Kicker is WAY expensive. You'd be looking at $300+ just to power one of the L7s. Don't get me wrong, they are awesome amps. But a budget amp will do just as well for a lot less.

And that amp does 1100WRMS @ 2ohm, you can ignore that because you would be running @ 1ohm with 2 dual 4ohm subs. And 1600WRMS is only 100 watts above the recommended 1500WRMS (750*2=1500), so as long as you tune the amp correctly and don't crank it all the way all the time you should be fine.

ohhhh, i thought you were telling me to get two of those amps, one for each sub. haha. yea, that makes sense now. so i just have to connect the two L7's (thank you for correcting me before, i forgot to mention, haha) to the hifonics amp.

Its a dual voice coil subwoofer. All the L7s are like that...... and most subwoofers now-a-days. Performance wise, it makes no difference to have single or dual voice coils. Just gives you more flexability when matching up an amp.

Example.... you don't HAVE to follow along.... just trust me. lol:

If the L7's were single voice coil 4 ohm. Your choices would be 2 and 8 ohm final load on the amp.

The L7's were dual voice coil 4 ohm. Your choices are 1, 4 and 16 ohms final load on the amp. One extra choice.

ooo, i kinda get it. i can never follow all these specs on subs and amps, its all so confusing. im pretty sure ill figure it out though.
