Alright, So I've been pulled over because of my driver-side brake light.
Its one of those lights that has two little light things in it. One lights up when I turn on my lights. But when I press my brake..the other one doesnt come on. I've changed the bulb..tried to clean out the socket...and still no luck. The mechanics around here want 70 bucks an hour to look for the problem. Also, the reverse light on the same side qutis working sometimes. Then I go in there and take it out and mess around and it works again.
Anyway, does anyone have any idea what is wrong? I really dont want to get pulled over again.
get a ohmmeter and see if you're getting power back there. if not, check it's fuse... just find where the problem starts at.... well thats what i would do, just try to narrow it down to where it starts.
I changed the fuses and still nothing. The weird thing is...one of the little light electrode things in the bulb works when my lights are on. But when I hit the brake it goes off and the other one doesnt come on. So, I know its not the bulb and I know some power is being sent to that bulb. So could it be that one part of the socket doesnt work?
you do know that there are 2 electrodes in that bulb...
one for the reg lights
one for the break light...
the reg one turns off when the breaks are pushed down
then the break one turns on...
i would get a new bulb.
the "break" one is burned out.
I'd say it's a bad ground too. My right taillight goes out everyonce in awhile. I'll be driving, then my friend behind me will call me saying my light's out. Get to the next light and it's working again :P. I've gotta go and clean mine up and all, maybe this week-end
I had similar problems with my taillights when I bought my Firebird. I simply replaced the socket and problem was solved. As a matter of fact it happened to almost all of my other taillights over the next month. After replacing the sockets they have been good for about a year. Sockets are cheap and it won't hurt to try it.
Yeah, its been doing this for like 3 months. Local guys also say its probably a ground. Im taking it into a shop monday. If it was the socket, I dont understand why one part of the bulb works and the other part doesnt.
When I turn on the lights..one of the electrodes in it lights up, then when I hit the brakes it goes off but the other one for the brakes doesnt come on.
