  • Rear Amp controls it all it seems

In trying to determine why my left and right sailplane speakers are dead, I unplugged the poweramp in the rear of my 2000 coupe. When I did that all sound stopped including the door speakers. That was a surprise. I had always read that the front speakers were powered by the head unit. Anyway, I still have no clue why both speakers are dead. Any new ideas?

The rear amp runs all the midbass drivers, the head unit controls the tweeters. At least on my '01 bird with Monsoon.

not in my 2k Camaro. When I disconnected the rear amp plug
      all went silent.
I am trying to figure out why the rears (both) are not functional anymore. I thought maybe the power (dc) was no longer getting to the rear amp. I pulled the plug to spray in some contact cleaner. Subsquent to pulling the connection no sound of any kind. Plugged it back in and the fronts worked.

I would remove the speakers and try connecting them to another radio just to make sure that the problem is with the amp. Then I would check the fuses on the amp. Then my only guess would be to check the connections. Try taking the speakers that aren't working out and connecting the with some short wires directly to your amp where you can find out whether not the speaker channels are working.

Boy, I wish it were a fuse issue but both fuses that in the front door jamb are functional. When I pull either one, the radio goes off. Its not a fuse. I don't think its a connection at the speaker(s)
itself...not both at the same time. I just don't know what is wrong.

I am talking about your amp. Most amps have fuses built in to them and the reason I suggested you check the speakers is because I am trying to make sure that you have narrowed down the problem to it definately being the amp.

the amp is located in a difficult location behind a panel in the rear of the car. It seems like they put it there so it was not accessible. A fuse inside this amp would be impractical at best as it would take a long time just to get the amp out to replace a fuse.
I would hate to spend 90 minutes taking everything out to find that there is no fuse. I know that the amp is operational as unplugging it, killing all the audio. If the fuse were out it would be the same as unplugging the multiple wire connector which I did

Well, I've had the amp out of my car. I'd say it could be out in less than 15 minutes. Either way, I've got a spare Monsoon amp for sale over in my thread. http://forum.camarov6.com/showthread.php?t=78195
I'm only askin 5 bucks+ shipping for it. It works fine. If you need one, lemme know.
