Ok...i know this is a beaten to death topic...I'm pretty sure its my BCM thats bad, but not 100% sure. I have sum electrical problems with my car...my interior lights blow the fuse the instant its put in and you try to turn them on, my radio cuts out randomly, and I sumtimes here like a switch like sound turing on from the passenger side dashboard. On top of this, my remote starter acts up now...when i start the vehicle using the remote it starts, and shuts off and turns back on a total of three times, then just quits...Is this all related to my BCM?

Is the remote starter and aftermarket installation? Now Playing: \'99 Pewter Firebird, stock, bone stock, and nothing but stock, so help me God!
Comming attractions: K&N Filter, Lid Mod, Intake Bellows Smooth Pipe Mod.
I dream about: Forced Induction (TC or SC) or NOX (or both!)

Re: Bcm
yes it is a aftermarket alarm/starter in the car, and yes it was professionally installed...when i remote start it... it starts for a few seconds...shuts down, restarts etc...etc... 3 times (the max limit before it gives up)...i thought maybe it might be bad wiring...but everything else thats wired up like the alarm works fine, and since im having the other electrical problems im also thinking it could be the BCM...i dunno

Re: Bcm
I dunno man, I've seen weird **** happen when the remote starter craps out. Just last week my wife's Aunt had to get the remote starter control box replaced because it was acting really strange. The installation was only a month or so old.
If yours was professionally installed it should have some sort of warranty. My Saturn SC1 remote starter came with a lifetime installation warranty. So what I'm saying is get the remote starter out of the picture by either taking it in to get looked at, and confirmed that it is ok, or by disconnecting it from the car's electrical system. Then from there, see if the other electrical problems that your having change.

Thats kinda what i was thinking...I know with the remote start/alarm I have on my car its prolly tied into a lot of things, so I was considering taking it outta the picture...but Im not sure how it relates to my dome lights and my radio. I know that both of those are tied into the BCM so I was thinking that it could be a problem with the bcm rather then the remote alarm/stater...especially cause all the functions on the alarm still work. How detrimental is the BCM?...is it possible to take it outta the picture or would everything stop working?

Re: Bcm
Well, first off if you remove the BCM your car wouldn't crank over cause the anti-theft relay needs a BCM input before it passes power on to the starter (and the BCM needs to see the resistor code in the ignition key to do this). And there is a multitude of other things as well (PCM fuel enable, instument cluster, security components).
I know the radio thing, cause I have that problem and I have devised a solution that bypasses the BCM. But that is only for the radio. The interior lights are a whole different ball game because the BCM gets inputs from the door jamb switches (including rear hatch) and the interior lights switch.
In my book, the true unknown at this point is the possible effect that a potentially faulty remote starter is having on the native wiring and systems, and that is all dependent on how the Installer "hacked" into the car's original wiring.
The possibility does exist that a faulty BCM is causing the remote starter to act funny. This you won't know until the remote starter is confirmed OK and without examining the installation and seeing where and what wiring the remote starter is connected to or spliced into. From there you can try to logic it out.Now Playing: \'99 Pewter Firebird, stock, bone stock, and nothing but stock, so help me God!
Comming attractions: K&N Filter, Lid Mod, Intake Bellows Smooth Pipe Mod.
I dream about: Forced Induction (TC or SC) or NOX (or both!)

Re: Bcm
aight...Im gunna try and get under there this weekend to take a look before I just ship it back to Best Buy lol... anything inparticular you recommend I look for? I know its supposed to be a complex sytem with a remote start, anti-grind, starter kill, pretty much all the bells and whistles...its a clifford, not that it makes a difference. My plan is more or less to follow the wiring along and just make sure everything looks ok before I take it in...

Re: Bcm
Take notes regarding where the remote starter is spliced into the original wiring. Record something like this:
Remote Starter wire connects to
Ignition +12V (red wire) pink wire going to BCM
Battery +12V (yellow wire) red wire at IP fuse Block
Crank (orange wire) yellow with black stripe going to
theft deterent relay.
With this there is a chance of figuring out what is going on, and you will have a guide as to where to put everything back together.
Good Luck! Its always fun digging under that dash.
