ok, so im about to go build a box for my subs. i'll be putting them where the t-tops are to sit, but im wondering about winter. since i live in nebraska, we get snow, and i will need sandbags, so does anybody think itd work to leave space under the box for sand bags?

i went to a car show in the spring..they had a subwoofer with that weighed in at about 350lbs. I'd just get a few of those and not worry about the sand bagging :p

but seriously, less box generally means less sound, depending on what the sub woofers you have are designed for. Figured out what the recommended cubic footage of the subs are, and work from there.

You can probably build your sub box to the specs you need...as for the sand bags, put them on the "shelf" right behind the back seat. That way the bags are directly over the rear wheels for winter driving. It worked well for me.

How much weight do you add when you put in your sandbags? Usually, subs and a box can weigh from 150-300lbs, depending on the set-up, so that'll be extra weight in the rear.

What subs are you building the box for? What type of enclosure do you have in mind?

i have a single dayton 12" titanic mk3 in a double walled 3/4" mdf sealed enclosure of ~1 cu.ft. it weighs 50 lb. the ported volume should be 2 cu.ft. it's more than enough to cause ear damage (130+ db). when you look at 2 woofers, you're only doubling the output...3 db. for the cost of a second woofer, get one really good woofer...you'll save on space too. my .02

put the sand bags in the rear 'trench'. that way you cantilever the weight...more weight on the axle than just putting them over the axle. you're also increasing the polar moment of inertia...which makes the car not want to spin. make sure you have winter tires...not just 'all season'.

Let em' answer this question first.

And if worse comes to worse, you could always try to find someone selling their Subthump Milhouse style box..... or give it a crack and make it yourself.
