  • Speaker replacement??

Hey guys a week or so ago I posted that I bought new speakers for my car. Again Ill tell you Ive went with Arc audio speakers. Ive gotten 2 sets of 6 1/2in components and one set of 4 inch coaxils. I have to factory Monsoon system just in case someone asks. I went Tuesday to replace the stock midranges in the backseat frist because they are the easiest to get to. When I pulled them out there were 2 sets of wires going to each speaker from the harness. Now Im guessing that makes them dual voice coil speaker if Im right here. Now Ive read every sticky I can find and even the one from LS1Tech about replaceing our speakers in our cars. Now that thread said to use the longer 2 wires out of the 2 sets of wires and tape off the shorter set. That is exactly what I did. Now I assumed that the hot wire was the red wire and the ground wire is the red and black striped wire and that is how I hooked them up to the speakers. Now after I did that the speakers dont seem to produce as much bass as the stock midranges did. Will someone tell me if I did this install right or If Ive crossed the wires? Just tell me any thought on this, but especially why it seems that the arc speakers seems as thougth they arent producing the same amoutnt of bass as the stockers. ANy help is apreciated guys, thanx. Im a bit of an audio component noob.

sounds to me like crossed wires, that shouldnt be. Less bass is bad.(bass=power of speaker)

it could be that the speakers u got didnt have as strong of a woofer as the stockers...this was the case w/ my 95 maro when i replaced the backseat speakers for my bose system(the backseat speakers have crossovers, bass only) i put some JVC 3 ways in and they had about half the bass of the stockers, no matter how i tried to wire them, so i just left the stockers

its the monsoon system, if you use the factory deck with aftermarket speakers they will sound terrible, you need to replace the deck and rewire the speakers and you will get a much better sound from them.

I didnt want to go throught the added expense and trouble of rewireing the system and buying a new deck. I wanted to keep the stock deck and just replace the speakers for bette sound quality. Im not looking for bass that a 10in sub would give me. I just want a little better quality over those stock paper crap speakers.

the monsoon system must have just had sucky speakers, cuz my stockers are 12 yrs old and they still sound excellent w/ the jvc deck

                  Re: Speaker replacement??

No, I'm using the factory Monsoons with an after market deck and a 12" sub. Sounds pretty damn good to me. As good as a full after market setup... no, but not bad by any means. I don't understand how adding proper after market components, if wired correctly, could sound worse.

My stockers don't start distorting till I reach about 45 out of 50 voume on my JVC Deck.......Of course, I turn all the bass down on them and have my subs compensate for that.

                      Re: Speaker replacement??

                      easy answer:
                      arcs are 4 ohms
                      ur stockers are 2 ohms
                      2 ohms=2*4 ohms power= much better

lol that doesn't look right. here's the gist of it:

2 ohms produce double the power of 4 ohm speakers

i had a shop install my speakers and they seem to kick pretty good. ill unscrew one of the speakers and check how they did it. it rattles anyway so i need to tighten it somehow :-/

On the back of the stock speakers out of the sail panelss say 4ohm/4ohm so they are 4 ohm speakers not 2 ohm. The arc speakers are 4ohm as well. The only difference is the stock ones were dual voice coils and the Ars are a single coil.
