  • Cheap Resistor Works!

I bought one of those retarded "chips" off of ebay for no more than 10 bux total. The thing ended up being a tiny resistor with two wires at the ends. It's supposed to plug into the IAT sensor located at the throttle body. Its certainly ghetto tuning mostly because once you plug it into the IAT sensor you can no longer connect it to the TB so you have to use electrical tape to keep it attached to something. It just changes the resistance in the sensor to cheat the cpu into thinking the air comiing in is colder than it really is and i assume makes the computer dump more fuel in accordingly. I read on a post before by 97rs about these cheap things, and someone mentioned that some 3.4 ers had actually seen gains up to .2 on there quarter. I figured ten bux wtf, you know? so i installed it yesterday, i made sure to unplug the comp for a solid 30 mins before reinstalling it. There was no hard idling problems, no SES light, and call me crazy but my car felt a bit more responsive! ghetto tuning or not, i think if properly used this thing can work. for instance, i kept the battery unplugged long enough to let the cpu fully reset and i already run 93 octane (which is recommended for this mod) and perhaps my CAI helps? who knows, who cares! Gains are seriously minimal at best, thats not the point of this post, the point is that for 10 bux you can't go wrong. If you doubt me, just ask yourself....

Does a one legged duck swim in circles???

after 500 miles your computer will try to compensate and advance the timing. when this happons you will burn a hole in the piston. have fun with ur 10 dollar mod.

it won't tear your car up or anything... but its not healthy. If you plan on racing someone and want some more umff then throw it on before you race, but as for leaving it on while you drive the car... I would not.

Put it this way... if it was so great for 10 bux than everyone would have one.

if you have any mods and such... you'd be better off to just get a tune. It will be better performance wise and healthier for your car.

i actually have one of them. I put it on because i didn't want to drill a hole and fab up a spot for the IATS in my CAI i made... just keeps me from throwing a code until i decide to put the sensor in.

so do you think it will burn a hole in my piston or something severe like that??

If you really want a resistor instead of an IAT, why spend $10 when $0.50 at Radio Shack will get you the same thing?
