Window Problems?! WTF?

Yeah I searched, so dont start...

My car doesnt have the same issues as other ppl. Mine still work...
when they feel like it! The windows will go up/down like its a brand new motor, and then just stop completely! And after about 15 seconds of waiting it will work again. After that it will go all the way or stop (never make it on first try, ever). And then Ill have to wait again! Now I have had my fair share of cars with PW and the motors would just get slower and slower until they died (or suddenly die). Never have I seen work perfect, take a break, work perfect, take a break?! And both windows do this, wtf?!:rant:

Dont think its switches either, cause when the pass side quits, nither switch works; and when it does work, both switches work?!:rant:

This is the same problem EVERYONE has and that one kit is supposed to fix it I guess, and make them go faster.

I heard it's nothing to do with the motors, it's the voltage or something.

Before you start critisizing someones post you should fully read it.

What you just stated was everyone elses problem and thier cure. My post states that they are not slow! They are fast and then stop working completely! The fix your talking about is to help out the pass side window motor to get more juice (its to make it speed up and help the motor last longer).

I have the same problem as you (just like alot of other people), where it goes full speed, but it randomly stops working.. then you have to like wait a minute, and when you press the button it moves like an inch then stops, and you have to keep doing it, and on like the 3rd time normally it goes all the way.

I have that same problem and it seems completely random. Also I can't roll my window all the way down or that will cause it too.

Well mine will do it everytime. Even if I dont put it all the way down. And its both windows?! What I seen in other threads is that ppl said that one or the other window completely stopped working, or they were b!tchen about it being slow (this is why I didnt know it was common). And from what I read it said it was for the pass side only. Didnt seem like it was refering to our problem at all. Did you get yours fixed?

You need a new window motor. So do I and I just ordered mine.

What happens is there is a Thermal Resistor built into the motor which acts as a circuit breaker for lack of a better word. When it trips the motor stops working. When it cools down and resets the window works again. A few people on here have just replaced the Thermal Resistor and not the entire motor but I have not been able to find it anywhere so I just purchased a new motor.

Hmm.. Never heard of a thermal resistor. I know that resistors produce heat. So hopefully someone who has replaced it before will see this thread and reply. I would imagine I could use just any type resistor (as long as it has the same resistance and tolerance). Am I wrong? I could deff solder this, easy stuff. Just dont know where to look for it. Thanks for the input, let me know how your fix goes!

however, good luck finding a replacement one. No one anywhere around here sells them. Window motors are cheap enough, so if you can't find a thermistor just get a new motor with a lifetime warrenty.

Its your motor... it works fine but gets hot. Thats why it rolls up fine but then freezes up until it cools off again.

yeah My passenger is doing that now, Im gonna get that autotrix window kit and a new motor all together its around 50 something, 30.00 for th kit (I think) and about 20 something for the motor off e bay.

Such a simple fix! Why buy anything (I don't have any money anyway)? That resistor shouldnt cost more than $.50! Worth trying it out at the very least!

Do you notice a problem with your stereo @ the same time your windows dont work?

Theres a BCM in your car(body control module), it's pretty common for it to go out, and that controls a few things, like your power windows, radio power and more...

It's been discussed and people have that problem from time to time, sometime it works, sometimes it doesnt.

It's been discussed and people have that problem from time to time, sometime it works, sometimes it doesnt.

Nope, no problems anywhere else. CD player and steering wheel controls, dash and all work great! Even when the malfunction happens.

I've been here awhile and have seen my share of window motor problems. It's the motors/thermistor. Also remember the load placed on the motors is directly related to how well it moves. For example, grab ahold of the window and help it up as you push the switch. The less weight the motor has to move, the better it will work. (until you can get it replaced)

Yeah I tried that but no dice! Does it the same either way! But when I get the time Im gonna take it out and take it upto radioshack and see if they can match it up! And Ill head up to Electrical Engineering Tech and see if I can get it soldered in next time I have class. Actually those guys will prob just give me the thermistors free. Ill let you guys know how it comes out.
