autometer gauges

Background info: I have a triple gauge pillar pod going in and I haven't ever done anything with the wiring in this car aside from tapping into the stereo for my amp and subs.

Current situation: planning on installing 2 of the 3 gauges soon, the one of interest pertaining to this thread being the A/F ratio.

Question: Anyone do this and take pictures along the way? A nice little photo step by step guide would be mighty helpful for me. I can follow the autometer instructions well enough it would simply take more time and I can spend on it right now, I just wanted to take a shot at being lazy and seeing if someone could make it a lot easier for me. Points of interest being where to tap into the O2 sensor signal line and what the proper way to power the gauge lighting is.
If no pictures, then whatever advice/expected problems/etc anyone can provide would be wonderful. Thanks in advance

Easiest way I found to power my gauge was to run it right to the fuse box on the drivers side right by the door.

I also ran my fuse right down the side column into the fuse box, wired it into one of the courtesy fuses I believe.


Tapping into the o2, well....

Unless it's a wideband, its really just a lightshow and pretty useless but that didnt stop me.

Seeing as its not very accurate, I tapped into the Pre-Cat o2 sensor, I took and shaved the insulation around the wire, carefully wrapped the signal wire to the a/f gauge around it and taped it up nicely.

If I remember correctly, it's the purple wire you tap into, but you should be able to call the company you bought the gauges from, tell them your make.model.year and they will have that info for you.

Questions on widebands then:
What's different about them compared to stock sensors, how much do they cost, is it a direct swap (the computer reads it the same as the stock sensor or is there any compatibility issues), and is it worth it?

It's worth it if your turbo/supercharged...

Pretty much a direct swap, I think you cut your exhaust pipe and the wideband goes into the exhaust, but im not sure.

And I think you leave your stock sensors in still, and the wideband sensor only reads for the gauge.

ZZP makes an Air/Fuel Pigtail so you don't have to splice wires.

Price, I think around $400-Up....

After a search on eBay I saw prices below, at, and above. That's all for digital readouts and tuning software... I'm thinking just a wideband to feed an AF gauge directly. Am I thinking along the right lines here or is that not how it works?
