  • HID's

Ok so im thinking about doing an HID conversion. i know they make the kits that would work on our cars with no cutting, and minimum wiring. ive looked on ebay but am kinda confused. can someone direct to a ebay auction that would work. i know they can be had from 50 bucks and up. also when selecting a kit, i need one with the 9005 or 9006?(not gonna have highs and lows, only one) thanks in advance

    Re: HID's

Not sure whether you have a Firebird or Camaro... You said you were only replacing one (either brights or lows)? 9005 = brights; 9006 = lows. If you want the brightest, get the 4300K ones. I had them on my Yamaha R6, and I could see the same with low beam on it, as I can with the high beams on my Camaro.

      Re: HID's

i have a camaro. i really like the blueish look of the 6-8k ones. so i will probably go with that brightness. if im only doing one is it better to do the high or low?

        Re: HID's

Do the lows obviously... how often do you get to drive around with highbeams, especially HID highbeams.

LOWs!!!! you never drive on high beam. High beam is usually used to draw attention/alert a driver. I don't remember when I used high beams last time. You should get 6K and tell me how they look. You'll be my guinea pig. That's what I planned on getting. IMO, 8k is too bluish. But again from kit to kit the color is different.

Here's a group buy from solaraguy.org. Sign up to the forum and try that kit (if you want). It's $73 shipped and was told it's better than other cheap kit. I was looking to buy it, but if you wanna go first, go ahead.

            Re: HID's

Definitely low beams, as it takes a few seconds for the brights to get to their full brightness. Unless you drive on alot of back roads that have nobody on them.

              Re: HID's

Please don't use your stock headlight housing for HID's... they are not projector style and you'll blind everyone because there is no cutoff line. The light will just go everywhere. You can retrofit or buy projector style headlights.

As for the higher color temp... yes they might look better, but remember that less light actually shines through. 4000K to 4300K range lets about the most light through.
Yes, I know \"Artic\" should be spelled \"Arctic\". Can any of the mods change this?

Were you wanting the high beam or low beam replacements? Hi = 9005; Lo = 9006. Yes, direct replacement, don't touch the bulbs though.

it's good till w/e. The email of the seller is on the post, email him (tell him u're a member of the board) with any questions you have. You can get the kit and use it as a plug and play HID untill you get some projectors. I think people will be forgivers if you blind them for short period of time.

top pic is my camaro with the 10 k hid kit, the middle one is the 6k kit with the flash and the last one is the 6k without flash ...
the 6 k does look brighter at night and it looks like pure white, however the 10k lights light up the road markers and signs so much better..its really up to you ... but at least now you have some idea of what it will look like

man that 10k looks real good. im really leaning towards it. as for blinding people. i guess they will have to put up with it for a while, cause im not about to try and retro fit some projectors.

IMO definitely 6K. 10K looks too blue/fake. But that's up to you!
