The fan has power all the time, the switch that turns the fan on and off is a ground wire.

Now, if you want to run the fan, when you want it to run, you need to give it your own ground.

This is when you tap into the ground wire thats going into the PCM and give it your own ground so it turns on when you flip the switch (apply the ground) and turns off when you take the ground away.

There should be a connector on the wheel well with letters labeled on top of the connecter where the wires go in.

we have ****ing victory! **** yeah!

i took 3 hours in the beautiful Buffalo sunshine to install not only my new fancy manual radiator fan switch, but my B&M shift improver kit!

astro, i followed your directions to a T and it worked out great. I think it's awesome how my fan didn't work before and now that i have the power to turn it on whenever, it does work! i installed it all very nicely with good crimps and tape and tie holders. The switch for the shift improver is mounted just under the steering column and the manual fan switch is located at the bottom left of the center console piece right by my knees when i'm driving. It looks pro!

anyhow, i took the car for a spin and it was nice to be able to turn on the rad. fan when it got a little hot and it halted the temps advance which is all i really needed. and the shift improver kit isn't anyting to soil yourself over but where you couldn't notice shifts before, you do in fact "feel" them now, just a little bit more umph which was what i was looking for.

thanks for all your help guys, especially u astro!

thanks for your help bro

btw, usually on a hot day do you just turn the fan on right from the get-go or do u wait till your car reaches a certain temp?

Great to hear it worked out bro! i usually use mine in slower city traffic, my car tends to heat up quickly during stop-go driving. Once the needle ever hits the halfway point on the temp guage, i flip the fan on, and once i hit the highway i cut it back off...dont like seeing my car over 210* or so...Good to see ya got that shift kit in, also! Enjoy it brother!

Normally i am running with the AC on so the fan is operating all the time. However on those rare cooler Miami nights I flip it on once the temp rises above 160. Then I just leave it on unless I am going on a highway run in which case I would shut it off while on the highway.

Remember that this is not a permanent fix. All it takes is forgetting to hit the switch one time and you could blow a head gasket or worse.

I followed this and now I have a manual fan switch that cost me $5.99 for the switch. Best write up I've seen for a single fan equipped camaro. Thanks!

unbolt the PCM...move it up and turn it out of the way, and find the grommet behind that in the firewall...you'll need that...

look in that little group of wires going toward to PCM along the passenger fender and find the green wire labeled "J". This is the ground wire for the fan motor. you know how speaker wire is 2 wires held together? well take an end of the speaker wire and seperate the individual wires a bit. one of these leads should tap into that green wire. the other should go to a bolt on the fender...anywhere where you can get it in contact with metal will suffice.

once you've got the wires connected (soldering is best), take the other end of the speaker wire and run it throught that grommet. it will take some playing with, but it will go through...you'll need to look up under the dash and find the wire when it comes through, then run it to where you wanna mount it...once ur in the area, split the 2 leads of this end of the speakerwire apart, and strip the wires. the switch you've bought should have just 2 little connectors on the back. simply connect (solder) a wire to each connector. i put electrical tape around the wire right after the switch just for extra support. turn the key to the "run" position, or simply turn the car on, and test the switch. when the cars running, you can tell if the fans come on as intended by watching for a slight "wiggle" in the "amp" guage.

now mount your switch, and you're done!

i dont race much, but it works great in slow moving city traffic, where my car tends to run quite hot...good luck bro!
