  • SLP sensor and JET chip

so i've got a jet chip for my 93 3.4 firebird and i've taken it on and off because i really cant tell whether its helping or hurting my car. Anyhow, I resolved to put it on again in the springtime when i bring my car out from storage and give it another shot, however I was wondering..... the jet chip advances ignition timing right? and i was thinking about getting one of those SLP intake sensors that tricks the comp into thinking the air is colder to advance timing, but SLP says not to use it with other products that advance timing, so would having both these products on at the same time be detrimental to my vehicle? Would the degree of timing advance be so slight that it would not be dangerous?

The IAT sensor is not worth the money. I am not positive but I think the jet does the same thing. I had a buddy give me one and I think I put it on for giggles. It only differs the temp like -3 degrees so your not gaining. You can do the same mod with a five cent resistor.

yeah i know but the 5cent resistor is so shoddy and looks like crap, if anything i like the fact that SLP makes it and it looks good. besides, 30 bux is not that much money.... i just need to know if having that and the jet chip together will cause problems

it shouldnt cause any problems, what I was trying to get at is it basically a resitor in a really nice plastic package. I would not recomend using a resistor, it looks tacky. Put that 30 bux back and save for a more valuable mod is what I should have said

i've bought a 5 cent resistor before for this mod and THAT looks tacky, you have to use tape to keep it in. This will look more professional. 30 dollars is not alot to me, for some people im sure it is, but not for me so i really don't care. I'd rather it look nice.

The 5 cent resistor looks tacky is what I was saying, I am not saying 30 dollars is alot, but for something that doesn't do anything it is. zero gain for 30 dollars is expensive horsepower, but if you feel the need for it then go for it.

yea, dont do that, send me the $30

save up and put that to something worthwhile (exhaust, intake, school, gas etc)

and sell the jet chip while your at it

dude, i have a full intake and exhaust. I hate school. I don't need gas $ in the winter cuz i drive a beater 4 cylinder. The Jet chip has to do some good (shift points, advance timing, air fuel ratio ) i didn't feel any gains from it but i'm sure they're there somewhere =/

You've replaced your entire intake? or just your airbox... cold air induction is not a full intake

cold air intake and p&p throttle body... so i'd say full intake cuz if your talkin bout engine work we're talkin bout redunkuless $

If you cant really notice a shift point than it's probably not doing **** for you. Sell it like I said before and buy something else.

full exhaust means you have header-back? LS1 driveshaft? LSD? Gears? all maintainence is up-to-date?

this spring when i get a coolant flush and an alignment ALL maintenence will be brand new (from april of last year)

yes, full exhaust, pacesetter headers...catco high flo cat, flowmaster catback. The Jet chip is weird imo, it seems like the revs go up higher before shifting, i dont know if that is a good thing, but anyhow i'm also gonna throw in a shift improver kit from b&m to firm it up a bit. Yes i have an aluminum d.s. and no i do not have an lsd with new gears, mainly because it seems to be like a headache finding everything i need and having the money to pay a shop to do it.
