Re: HIDs in
For 98-02 it's easy to do if you don't retrofit projectors. If you don't have projectors, it's illegal and will cause glare to oncoming drivers.
Here's a better idea for the people who want to stay legal. Get HIR bulbs.
Check out more info here:
http://www.saturnspot.com/products/2...iba-bulbs.html
and here:
http://hirheadlights.com/
In summary, those bulbs are pretty much really efficient halogens. They put out about ~1875 lumens... so almost twice as much as stock(1000 lumens). The color temp is a little bit higher too, so itThey have the same length dimension as regular 9006 bulbs, so the focal point for the reflector assembly has not changed.
My philosophy has always been to do it right if you're retrofit HID's in. So they're really your best option right before HID. The only problem is price. Since nobody has really heard of them and only Toshiba makes them, they're $25 for one bulb from that one website. John Deere used to have them for about $10 each, but they're raised the price since once they found out everybody was ordering them for their cars. But I figure, they should be worth it as they cost as much as a pair of silverstars, but have the lifespan of a normal halogen bulb... should last around 3-4 years. Plus they're much brighter than silverstars. Actually, if I remember correctly, silverstars don't actually put out more than 1000 lumens... the color temp of the light is just whiter.Yes, I know \"Artic\" should be spelled \"Arctic\". Can any of the mods change this?

Re: HIDs in
It's up to the cops if they actually enforce it, but putting HID's in a reflector-type headlight assemly IS illegal.
If you have people flashing you, then I think it's obvious your headlights are causing some sort of glare.Yes, I know \"Artic\" should be spelled \"Arctic\". Can any of the mods change this?

Re: HIDs in
Technically any aftermarket installed HID system illegal unless the projector housing has been DOT approved for use with HID, which excludes most projectors.
as for those "high output halogens" a 9005 bulb puts out about 1800 lumens, costs the same as a 9005, and only requires minor modification to work.
The H9 bulbs (halogen) that came with my projectors had a light output of 2100lumens and was virtually the same size as a 9006.
