Any tutorials out there that show how to hardwire an extra cigarette lighter plug in a 2000 Camaro? I want to have one behind the dash. Thanks.

Just go to Radio Shack, pick up a plug and piggy back the + and - wires into the + and - of the factory plug... should work unless you are needing to draw higher current. In that case, you might want to run a separate line from the battery. Remember to fuse it. This reminds me. I want to rewire one of my plugs so it shuts off my GPS when I turn the key off.

Yeah, so long as the items you have on both plugs don't exceed the rating on the fuse, you'll be fine.

Wally world has the lighter for <$3.00. I added another power source to my '96 maro and that's all it cost. In your case you are going to need a bit more wire, that's all.Comment

Why even d!ck around with the female cig plug?.... solder the wires on both side and be done with it. I do it daily at work.Comment
