I'd known for a long time I had "dim" brake lights. But it turns out, after watching many Camaro's brake etc, that in actuality my TAIL LIGHTS were coming on when I put my brakes on! And at night when my headlights came on, my BRAKE LIGHTS would act as tail lights... So my brake lights are stuck on when my headlights are on... What in the world could have caused this? By the way, my car is a 1997 Camaro. I did replace some bulbs in the brake light / tail light cluster years ago, but I really don't think it has anything to do with the wrong bulbs. Because they light up correctly, just at the wrong times.

Re: Tail light / Brake light problem... They are reversed!
My Firebird used to have the same problem. The thick filament would illuminate as the parking lights, and the thin filament would illuminate when the brake pedal was pressed. In my case it was a shorted out bulb socket which was causing a bad ground. It was a pain in the neck to diagnose, but it was an easy repair.
Check to see if your bulb is lighting up the same way that mine was.
