  • Battery Drain--could be computer?

I'm keeping this first post edited to give an accurate description.

I have an 110mA current draw on my battery when everything is off.
30mA of this is for my aftermarket audio amps, which is fine.
The remaining 80mA is far too high for a stock system draw.

Disconnecting the Body Control Module completely takes care of the current drain problem (lowers from 80 to 6mA)
By cutting wires and disconnecting plugs, I figured out that the BCM draws this much current with ONLY two wires hooked up, the red power wire and the black ground wire.
I figured it was thus the BCM, so I replaced the BCM, but that did not change the current draw.

Other stuff: I don't have an alarm

Thats the Body Control Module behind the glove box. Not the PCM.

OK, is there any reason why the body control module would be drawing so much current?

It has a few relays in it or close by it, one could be stuck. It operates lights, the factory alarm, keyless entry and VATS. Pull fuse's till you find what circuit is draining.

I traced the drain and found that it was the headlights causing the draw. Note that they were down and turned off... is there any reason why they would intermittently draw current? After I pulled the fuse and put it back in, the draw went away. Should I be worried that it will come back in the future?

          Thanks!

Well--the draw is definitely back. Seems to be the headlights again.

Could be the headlight control module. Thats the box that makes the lights go up and down.

Where can I get one of these headlight control modules?

my car has a small drain if I dont lock it using the keyless entry. but that is due to the alarm. do you have an alarm? and if so do you arm it?

                    I don't have an alarm.

GO to a dealership, see if they can get you a price on the headlight control module, and print out a schematic of where it's located on the car.

                        Re: Battery Drain--could be computer?

OK so I got a new headlight control module and fixed that part of the drain.

That didn't entirely fix my problems though--there is a 60mA draw associated with the interior lights even when they are off. Does anyone know what that's about? (what I mean is, the car not including the interior lights draws 20mA, my stereo draws 30mA, and those lights draw 60mA for a total of 110mA)

Specifically, if I pull the fuse for the interior lights the draw goes away (even after I plug the fuse back in) until I restore power. How can I find out what part of the interior light circuit is drawing the power?

Edit: Note that as far as I know, none of the lights are on to cause this draw. The lights that I know are not on are: hatch light, map lights, glovebox light. Are there other lights to check?

Unplug the BCM behind the glove box and see if it stops.

                            Re: Battery Drain--could be computer?

bigbrian- unplugging the main plug and leftmost plugs on the BCM do nothing, but when I unplug the second plug (so not the rightmost big plug, but the one in the middle that's I think six pins that goes into the spot J2) that takes care of the current draw--it drops from 80mA to 6mA. I plugged it back in, and bam, back up to 80. Note that although I do have aftermarket radio, I pulled the radio--it only accounts for about 4mA of the 80mA.

By the way, thanks so much for your help guys. I really appreciate it.

The wires going to J2 are:

                            Red
                            Brown
                            Black
                            Orange
                            Blue
                            Blue/White

Either a relay inside the BCM is stuck on or a relay that one of those wire goes to is stuck.
